Thomas Frank Predicts ‘Beast’ Szoboszlai Will Feature Against Tottenham
Ahead of Tottenham’s highly anticipated Premier League clash with Liverpool on December 20, Thomas Frank, the manager of Spurs, has weighed in on the fitness of several key players, with a focus on Liverpool’s influential midfielder, Dominik Szoboszlai. While Liverpool’s coach Arne Slot offered a cautious approach in his pre-match update, Frank seems confident that Szoboszlai will be ready to take the field.
Szoboszlai’s Fitness Update
Arne Slot had earlier shared his concerns regarding Szoboszlai’s recovery following an injury sustained in Liverpool’s match against Brighton and Hove Albion. The Hungarian midfielder had been forced to fill in at right-back due to Joe Gomez’s absence, leading to his unfortunate setback. Slot revealed that Szoboszlai had trained for the first time in parts on Thursday, adding that his availability would be decided closer to the game.
However, Thomas Frank, speaking at his own press conference, dismissed any doubts about Szoboszlai’s participation. Frank, clearly impressed by the midfielder’s performances this season, was adamant about his involvement. He said: “Szoboszlai is a beast, he will play tomorrow, of course.”
Liverpool’s Injury Woes
Alongside Szoboszlai’s uncertain status, Liverpool has a couple of notable absences ahead of their trip to Spurs. Both Cody Gakpo and Joe Gomez have been ruled out of the fixture, leaving a gap in Liverpool’s squad. It remains unclear whether Szoboszlai will be fit enough to feature, but Frank’s declaration suggests he believes the Reds will be bolstered by the Hungarian’s return.
Liverpool’s Strengths and New Signings
While Frank’s comments were primarily focused on Szoboszlai, he also took the opportunity to praise other members of the Liverpool squad. The Brentford boss highlighted the strength of Liverpool’s new recruits, specifically pointing out the impact of Hugo Ekitike, who has been in sensational form this season. “Ekitike is having a great season,” Frank remarked.

Frank also had positive things to say about Liverpool’s other new signings, including Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak. Frank described Isak as a “top striker” and expressed his belief that the Swedish forward would soon deliver on his potential. “Isak is a top striker, he will come good,” Frank said, echoing similar sentiments to those of Micky van de Ven, who had previously spoken highly of Isak’s ability.
