Exclusive: Liverpool Make First Move Over Potential £20m Signing

With the January transfer window fast approaching, Liverpool fans are eagerly anticipating some action.

The defence of their Premier League title has been incredibly disappointing with the Reds currently sitting 5th in the table and sitting ten points behind league-leaders Arsenal.

The need for reinforcements has only grown with Arne Slot facing a bit of a selection crisis over the festive period. Giovanni Leoni, Joe Gomez, Conor Bradley, Wataru Endo, Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak are all suffering from fitness issues, whilst Mohamed Salah is away at AFCON with Egypt.

With just three attacking options available at the moment, Liverpool have been tipped to move for AFC Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo in January.

However, Anfield Index sources have revealed that Liverpool are considering other names before the window opens next week…

Liverpool Make Contact with Bundesliga Forward

Liverpool have reportedly made contact with the representatives of Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi, who could be available for just £20m next month.

The German winger only has 18 months remaining on his deal for the Bundesliga giants and is expected to leave.

Whilst this isn’t any sort of advanced deal, Adeyemi is one of the names being considered by the Liverpool hierarchy.

In terms of a deal for Semenyo, the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea are pushing hard for the forward and Liverpool are left unsure by his £65m price tag.

Adeyemi Criticism

Of course, the mention of Adeyemi will raise many eyebrows. The 23-year-old has had his injury struggles and has also come under fire for his attitude.

Former Liverpool defender Markus Babbel recently slated the young forward’s attitude, saying: “When I see his potential, he’s almost world-class and he really has everything. But then you see that he is actually district-class in his head.”

Just last week, Adeyemi caused a stir with his reaction to being substituted in Dortmund’s 2-0 win over Monchengladbach.

“He just unnecessarily ruins his performances again because he can assess himself very badly,” said Babbel, “His performance against Gladbach, where I was in the stadium myself, was horrible. I was surprised that he wasn’t taken off at half-time. The fact that he then assesses his substitution so exorbitantly wrong, that’s fabulous and I would have liked more self-criticism.”
