Liverpool told not to sell star player in January

The transfer window finally opens tomorrow and there’s plenty of speculation expected around Liverpool.

None of which will be anywhere near the magnitude of the possibilty of Mohamed Salah departing.

After a record-breaking 24/25 season, the Egyptian King has struggled for consistency so far this term and of course had a major fallout with head coach Arne Slot.

Despite only signing a new contract in the summer, it led to some reports suggesting he could make a big money switch to Saudi in January.

However, former Premier League manager Tim Sherwood, speaking to Anfield Index courtesy of BetWright Betting UK, believes that Liverpool shouldn’t even consider such deal…

One of the best players the league has seen

Despite his frustrating form this season, there’s no denying the sheer quality of the Egyptian King. That quality is needed more than ever with £125m signing Alexander Isak suffering a leg break in Liverpool’s 2-1 win at Spurs recently.

“I wouldn’t even be thinking about selling him in January,” said Sherwood, “I think he will stay until the end of the season, especially with the injury to Isak.”

“We’ve got short memories if we are writing him off already because he’s one of the best players the league has seen,” continued Sherwood, “I think it was out of order what he did and the manager deserves an apology from him and then they can all move on and get a proper send off at the end of the season.”

“He deserves that too because he’s an absolute legend and is one hell of a player. They will need him in the second half of the season and he’s still got something to offer,” finished Sherwood.

Salah’s Return to AFCON

Salah has been shining for Egpyt at the African Cup of Nations, scoring the winner in both of Egypt’s first two games.

Should they make it to the final, then Salah will be away until Monday 20th January. His first game back could be Liverpool’s crucial away clash with Marseille in the Champions League.

Failing that, then he should certainly be back in time to face Bournemouth on 24th January.

Liverpool fans will be hoping that he returns with true sharpness and form and can help the Reds finish the season strongly after a poor first half of the season.

Currently sitting 13 points behind league-leaders Arsenal, it’s hard to see Liverpool retaining their Premier League crown.

But, hopes are still alive in both the Champions League and the FA Cup and Slot might just need to win one of them to keep the faith of the Liverpool supporters.
