Ryan Gravenberch Urges Liverpool to Show Mentality in FA Cup Clash with Wolves

Gravenberch Calls for Strong Response

Ryan Gravenberch has challenged Liverpool to demonstrate resilience and character as they return to Molineux for their Emirates FA Cup fifth round meeting with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Liverpool’s last visit to Wolves ended in frustration, a stoppage time goal sealing a 2-1 defeat in the Premier League earlier this week. For Gravenberch, the swift return to the same ground offers an immediate chance for Liverpool to reset and prove their quality.

Speaking ahead of the FA Cup tie, the midfielder stressed the need to move beyond the disappointment and refocus on the task ahead.

“It’s a bit sore but we have to forget the result what we had and we have to move on and give it our all,” Gravenberch said.

Liverpool’s season has featured moments of promise alongside performances that lacked precision, and Gravenberch acknowledged that the previous match highlighted areas requiring improvement.

“I think we didn’t play a really good game. In possession we have to be more patient, also not so sloppy and create more chances. Then if we create more chances, we will score goals.”

Molineux Rematch Presents Unique Challenge

Back to back away fixtures against the same opponent are rare for Liverpool. The club last experienced such a situation in 2017, making this double encounter with Wolves an unusual scenario for the squad.

For Gravenberch, the experience adds a different dimension to the preparation. The Dutch midfielder admitted the situation is new territory in his career.

“This is the first time that it’s happened,” he explained. “We had them in the league and then on Friday we have the FA Cup game.”

The narrow defeat earlier in the week serves as a clear reminder of Wolves’ capabilities, even though their league position suggests struggle.

“We didn’t get the result [on Tuesday], so I think we have to prepare well and show that we can get the result [on Friday].”

Gravenberch also dismissed the idea that Wolves’ league standing reflects their true level.

“They have a good team. They are last in the league but I don’t think they deserve to be there because they have a really good team – you saw that also in the game.”

Liverpool Focused on FA Cup Progress

For Liverpool, the stakes are clear. Victory would secure passage to the FA Cup quarter finals and bring the club closer to another trophy.

Gravenberch, who has already experienced silverware during his time at Liverpool, including the Premier League and Carabao Cup, remains motivated by the pursuit of further honours.

He believes the mentality within the Liverpool squad must always revolve around winning.

“I know it will be a tough game because they have the confidence as well. But we have to be mentally strong and show them that we can get the result as well.”

With Liverpool seeking an immediate response, Gravenberch’s message is simple. Focus, intensity and belief must guide the team back onto a winning path.

“I think as a player you want to win every trophy possible. You want to win every game and that’s the mentality you have to show. We go there and we will show that.”
