Liverpool star sends message in victory over Wolves
Just days after a disastrous Premier League defeat at the same ground, Liverpool’s return to Wolves was a crucial clash.
With the FA Cup remaining the club’s only realistic chance at silverware this season, a place in the quarter-finals was at stake.
Thankfully, goals from Andy Robertson, Mohamed Salah and Curtis Jones saw the Reds progress with a 3-1 victory.
But not only was it crucial for the club’s ambitions this season, it was also a huge opportunity for some of Arne Slot’s squad players to step up to the plate.
Whilst 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha rightly stole the headlines with his impressive performance, there was another brilliant performer in midfield.
Curtis Jones Shines
It has been a difficult few months for Curtis Jones. Since Inter Milan made a late move for the midfielder in January, he has barely been used by Slot, despite Liverpool’s recent struggles.
In the 5-2 win over West Ham United last week, teenager Trey Nyoni was introduced into midfield, whilst Jones remained on the bench.
However, the 25-year-old returned to the starting lineup for last night’s FA Cup clash.

Whilst his curling left-footed effort from outside the box caught the eye, his overall performance was outstanding.
Here are some of his statistics from his stellar performance:
- 60 touches
- 51/51 passes completed (100%)
- 37/37 passes in the opposition’s half.
- 4/5 ground duels won.
- 1/1 successful dribbles.
- 13 carries.
- 1 key pass.
- 1 assist.
- 1 goal.
Looking Ahead
Jones’ current contract is set to expire in June 2027 and with contract talks seemingly stalling, his future at Anfield remains uncertain.
The interest from clubs like Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur leaves Jones with a big decision to make.
After starting just three of Liverpool’s last 11 Premier League games, it is clear that he isn’t close to the top of Slot’s midfield options.
Liverpool are reportedly eyeing further midfield reinforcements with names like Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson regularly linked.
As it stands, it’s hard to imagine Jones staying at Liverpool next season. Which is bitterly disappointing.
But his performance against Wolves will have certainly sent a clear message and reminder to Slot and the club’s hierarchy as his uncertainty grows.
