Liverpool Draw Manchester City in FA Cup Quarter Finals
Liverpool have discovered their next challenge in the FA Cup, and it promises to be one of the standout ties of the round. Arne Slot’s side will face Manchester City in the quarter finals after progressing with a convincing 3-1 win away at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The victory at Molineux secured Liverpool’s place in the last eight and kept alive hopes of adding another FA Cup to the club’s trophy cabinet.
Liverpool Path to Quarter Finals
Liverpool produced a composed display against Wolves to book their place in the FA Cup quarter finals. Andy Robertson broke the deadlock early in the second half with a superb strike from distance. Moments later he turned provider, setting up Mohamed Salah for a simple finish that doubled Liverpool’s lead.
Curtis Jones then wrapped up the result with just over 15 minutes remaining, calmly placing his effort past the goalkeeper to make it 3-0. Wolves substitute Hwang Hee chan grabbed a late consolation in added time, but the result had already been settled.
The 3-1 scoreline reflected Liverpool’s control for large periods of the match, even if chances were initially limited.

Arne Slot Reaction After Wolves Win
Liverpool manager Arne Slot reflected on the performance after the match and pointed to similarities with recent games.
Slot said after the game: “Of course, it’s a perfect response when you look at the results, but every stat is exactly identical to three days ago. I think they were on 0.44xG and they scored tonight. Their only chance they had, they scored one. The positive thing is three days ago they only had one chance and scored twice.
“We struggled to create a lot of chances from a lot of ball possession we had in the first 50 minutes. But after scoring not a big chance – the shot from Robbo is not a big chance – things opened up a bit more for us.
“Again, we conceded in extra time, so that’s similar. There was not so much difference because in the first 50 minutes we were maybe a bit faster going from side to side, that had also to do with the personnel, with the different type of players that were in certain positions. But overall, there were a lot of similarities between this game and three days ago [and] a lot of ball possession.”
Manchester City Test in FA Cup
The draw now sets up a heavyweight FA Cup clash between Liverpool and Manchester City across the weekend of April 4 and 5. It will be a meeting of two of English football’s strongest sides and a tie that could shape the latter stages of the competition.
Liverpool supporters will also be aware of recent FA Cup frustrations. The club have not gone beyond the quarter finals since lifting the trophy in 2022 after defeating Chelsea on penalties at Wembley. Since that triumph, Liverpool have suffered two fourth round exits and a quarter final elimination against Manchester United in 2024.
This upcoming encounter with Manchester City offers both a major challenge and a significant opportunity for Slot’s team as they attempt to push deeper into the FA Cup once again.
