“I struggle to see Arne Slot being around much longer”
Liverpool’s 1–1 draw with Spurs at Anfield has intensified scrutiny on Arne Slot, and according to Liverpool reporter David Lynch, the questions surrounding the manager are becoming harder to ignore.
Speaking after the Premier League clash, Lynch delivered a brutally honest assessment of where Liverpool stand right now. The performance, the atmosphere at Anfield and the long term trajectory of the team all point to a club heading into a decisive summer.
Here are five key takeaways from David Lynch following Liverpool’s 1–1 draw with Spurs.
1. Arne Slot Under Serious Pressure After “Worst Result of the Season”
Lynch did not hide how damaging he believes the result against Spurs could be for Liverpool and their manager.
“Tonight really has to be arguably the worst result of the season for me.”
The context makes it even worse. Spurs arrived at Anfield in dreadful form and with huge squad problems.
“They had six defeats in the last six games. They had 14 first team players missing.”
Yet Liverpool, the reigning Premier League champions, still could not win.
For Lynch, that raises serious questions about whether Slot can survive beyond the season.
“It’s very, very hard… I think it’s almost impossible to make the case that Arne Slot should remain in post.”
2. Liverpool Are Getting Worse, Not Better
One of Lynch’s biggest concerns is that Liverpool are heading in the wrong direction as the season progresses.
“What we’re seeing is a Liverpool team that is just getting worse and worse with each passing week.”
The expectation during a transitional season is improvement as the months go on. Lynch believes the opposite is happening.
“You kind of try and tell yourself that things have to get better towards the end… but it just isn’t happening.”
Instead of building momentum for next season, Liverpool appear stuck in the same cycle of poor performances.

3. Liverpool’s Football Is Ineffective and Hard to Watch
Lynch acknowledged that much of the Premier League has become difficult viewing this season due to low blocks, physicality and set piece battles.
But Liverpool have a bigger problem than just aesthetics.
“You don’t have to also be along with being awful to watch ineffective as well.”
He compared Liverpool’s situation to Arsenal.
“You can talk as much as you like about how terrible they are to watch at times, but the fact is they get the job done.”
Liverpool are not doing either.
“The job when you’re Liverpool manager… is to win football matches. And Liverpool can’t do that.”
4. Serious Questions About Coaching and Structure
Another major takeaway from Lynch’s analysis was his concern about the lack of tactical structure.
Liverpool’s play in the final third appears improvised rather than rehearsed.
“When they get into the final third and they look up it’s just like, okay, individuals do what they want.”
He also questioned the training processes behind the scenes.
“There’s no patterns… you start to say, well okay, what are they doing in training?”
The defensive side of the game is also worrying.
“They don’t seem to be well organised. They seem far too easy to get at.”
For Lynch, those issues ultimately point back to the head coach.

5. One Bright Spot: Rio Ngumoha
Despite the frustration surrounding Liverpool’s performance, Lynch did highlight one major positive.
Young winger Rio Ngumoha impressed again and looks like a huge talent for the future.
“That kid, no matter how bad things are for Liverpool at the moment, he is the future of Liverpool.”
Ngumoha’s numbers were impressive.
“Seven dribbles completed out of seven dribbles attempted.”
Lynch also praised Slot for managing the youngster carefully before introducing him to the team.
“You give him credit there… his handling of Ngumoha has been spot on.”
How Can Slot Survive From Here?
Ultimately, Lynch believes Liverpool’s hierarchy will wait until the end of the season before making a final decision.
Slot has not been handed a new contract and will have one year remaining on his deal this summer, which Lynch believes is telling.
“They clearly want to wait till the end of the season… and make an informed decision.”
But based on what he has seen so far, the Liverpool reporter finds it difficult to see a path forward.
“It’s really hard to see how the head coach survives it.”
The next few months could decide everything at Anfield.
