Keith Andrews Gives Brentford Boost Before Liverpool Clash

Liverpool host Brentford at Anfield on Sunday knowing one point will secure Champions League football, but Keith Andrews’ side arrive with their own European hopes still alive.

Brentford Injury News

Keith Andrews delivered a positive update before the trip, with Brentford largely unchanged from last week. Rico Henry remains out, while Fabio Carvalho and Antoni Milambo are sidelined with ACL injuries.

“The players are in a good place,” Andrews said. “We had the awards last night – it was nice to get together. We’ve had a good couple of weeks. The season is coming to a close. Injury-wise it’s the same as last week, in terms of availability.

For Brentford, that continuity matters. This is a squad that has found attacking rhythm at the right time, with Dango Ouattara, Kevin Schade and Igor Thiago all having punished Liverpool in the reverse fixture.

Liverpool Facing Final Day Pressure

Liverpool, last season’s Premier League champions under Arne Slot, have endured a more uneven campaign.

That single point could shape the summer. Recruitment, contracts and player ambition all feel different when elite European football is guaranteed. For Liverpool, Sunday is less about romance and more about closing the job properly.

Keith Andrews Plans Tactical Flexibility

Andrews suggested Brentford will not arrive with a rigid plan. His comments point towards a side prepared to adjust its attacking shape depending on personnel, form and Liverpool’s weaknesses.

Asked how he is likely to set up his side on Sunday, Andrews responded: “It’s a little bit about our players and where they’re at: physically, form, opposition. We’re willing to be a little bit unpredictable with how we attack at times.

“On Sunday [against Crystal Palace] we played Dango [Ouattara] a little bit more narrow, closer to [Igor] Thiago. We didn’t start Kevin [Schade] last weekend, so we wanted those two to come closer as a pair.

“We wanted to get Dams [Mikkel Damsgaard] and Mathi [Jensen] a little bit closer on occasions. There’s always a little bit of method in the madness, I suppose.”

Anfield Stakes For Brentford

Brentford sit ninth, one point behind Chelsea in eighth, and still have a route into Europe. That makes this far more than a ceremonial final day fixture.

Liverpool need control. Brentford need incision. Andrews’ update suggests his players are physically and mentally ready to test Anfield’s nerves.

For Keith Andrews, Brentford and Liverpool, the equation is simple enough. One side wants Champions League security, the other wants to stretch a fine season into Europe. That should make Sunday feel sharp, tense and potentially decisive.
