Liverpool’s midfield rebuild could take another significant turn this summer, with Khephren Thuram emerging as a serious name on the club’s radar.

Should Liverpool lose one or both, Andoni Iraola would need more than a body in midfield. He would need power, mobility, ball-winning capacity and someone capable of handling the physical rhythm of the Premier League.

From a Liverpool perspective, there is plenty here to admire, but also plenty to question.
Thuram is powerful, athletic and carries the sort of midfield presence Liverpool have lacked at times. On paper, he looks like a player who could suit Iraola’s demands. He can cover ground, compete physically and help bring aggression back into a midfield that has too often looked passive.
Yet the concern is obvious. Are Liverpool replacing Curtis Jones with a better footballer, or simply a different one? Jones has flaws, but he is homegrown, technically secure and understands the club. Selling him for around £26m, then spending close to £48m on Thuram, would need to be justified by a clear tactical upgrade.
There is also the Manchester United factor. Liverpool cannot afford to be drawn into a prestige race for the sake of it. If Thuram is the right player, move decisively. If he is merely available because Juventus need money, walk away.
This summer has to be about precision, not noise. Liverpool need midfielders who fit Iraola’s football, improve the starting XI and change the physical ceiling of the team. Thuram might do that, but supporters will need more convincing before calling this a must-do deal.
