Liverpool Transfer Show Examines Savinho and Pedro Neto as Search Continues

Liverpool’s hunt for attacking reinforcements has entered a fascinating phase, and the latest episode of The Transfer Show saw Dave Davis and Trev Downey assess where the club may turn next. With preferred targets proving increasingly difficult to secure, the discussion shifted towards two fresh names, Savinho and Pedro Neto, while also questioning whether either player truly represents the level Liverpool require.

Throughout the podcast, Davis repeatedly stressed that the market has changed, forcing Liverpool to explore alternatives that perhaps would not have led the shortlist only a few weeks ago.

As he told Downey: “Everyone’s digging on the same thing aren’t they? Who are Liverpool going to move for? It’s clear the wingers are the priority and I’m saying that plural. We’ve known that all summer. Liverpool are now, we’re on the alternate list.”

Savinho Link Raises More Questions Than Answers

Discussing Manchester City’s Savinho, Davis admitted he was far from convinced despite confirming Liverpool had made enquiries.

“You sometimes get things stood up and you don’t want things get stood up,” he joked before adding, “Liverpool have asked City about Savinho.”

Davis highlighted why the Brazilian remains an intriguing option on paper. He praised his ability to carry the ball, pointing to “progressive carries, 99th percentile” and “field yards gained by carries, 99th percentile”, describing him as “absolutely brilliant in certain aspects if you’re looking for just an out and out carrier.”

Yet the praise quickly became more measured.

“When you take out the carrying stuff, it’s not like he creates loads of chances.”

Davis also questioned why Savinho has struggled for regular opportunities at Manchester City.

“There’s a reason, we have to be clear on this, why he’s been on the City bench most of the season.”

For Downey, neither the profile nor the circumstances inspired much confidence, acknowledging that these were simply the stories emerging rather than players either presenter was actively pushing for.

Pedro Neto Offers Experience, But Injury Concerns Persist

Pedro Neto generated an equally cautious discussion.

Davis revealed Liverpool had renewed contact through familiar channels.

“Liverpool seem to be back in bed with Jorge Mendes whose client is Pedro Neto.”

He acknowledged the positives first. Neto’s Premier League experience, versatility and creativity all earned recognition.

“He is very distinct, Neto, if I’m trying to be positive about this. He is a carrier, his passing’s good.”

Looking at the underlying data, Davis highlighted Neto’s delivery from wide areas.

“He is a crosser. The cross expected threat, 95th percentile. The cross value added, 93rd percentile.”

He also disclosed that the player himself would be interested in joining Liverpool.

“Our info is getting this stood up today. Neto would jump at this. They nearly did him when he was at Wolves.”

However, the reservations were impossible to ignore.

“Do I want this name to be there? No.”

Davis then delivered perhaps his strongest warning of the discussion.

“Have you seen Pedro Neto’s injury record, Trev? It’s horrendous.”

Downey shared those concerns, saying: “Neither myself nor Dave would be happy at either of those recruitment options.”

He questioned whether Neto has consistently demonstrated “that proven threat across the goals and assists that we need”, before admitting, “Those ones worry me.”

Liverpool Continue Searching for Right Answer

Despite their doubts, both contributors recognised why Liverpool may be considering players with different profiles.

Trying to identify the logic, Davis suggested: “Both are quick. Both can beat a man.”

He added that Savinho excels in tight combinations around the penalty area, while Neto can operate on either flank and offers valuable crossing ability.

Still, he refused to oversell either option.

“I don’t want to be disingenuous. Anything I’m bringing to you, I’m poking holes in with these two.”

Even Neto’s respectable return of “10 goals, 10 assists” failed to completely convince him.

“They don’t exactly set your heart racing, do they?”

That honesty defined the discussion throughout The Transfer Show. Rather than presenting Savinho or Pedro Neto as obvious solutions, Dave Davis and Trev Downey examined both players with equal measures of evidence and scepticism. Liverpool clearly remain active in the market, but the podcast reflected a club weighing up compromise while continuing its search for the right fit.
