Liverpool Transfer News: Fabrizio Romano Confirms Major Contract News

In what could be the most important piece of business completed this summer, Liverpool appear to have secured a new contract for Dominik Szoboszlai.

The 25-year-old has constantly grew in importance since his arrival on Merseyside back in 2023 and was a standout performer in a disastrous title defence under Arne Slot.

But now, the midfielder is ready to commit his future to the club in the new project under Andoni Iraola.

Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has took to social media to confirm the news…

Liverpool Agree Five Year Deal

Speaking on X, Romano said: “Dominik Szoboszlai has agreed to sign new FIVE year deal at Liverpool, valid until June 2031!”

“Verbal agreement in place with final details being sorted ahead of signature and official statement.”

“Szoboszlai stays, fully committed to #LFC new project under Andoni Iraola.”

Liverpool have crucially avoided another saga which eventually saw Ibrahima Konate join Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer.

It has been a common mistake in recent years from the Reds. Just last year, Trent Alexander-Arnold was free to join Real Madrid too.

Thankfully, Szoboszlai joins his midfield partner Ryan Gravenberch in signing a new deal and fans will be hoping for more positive contract news.

Who Next?

11 Liverpool players are heading into the final year of their contract. That list contains Alisson Becker, Freddie Woodman, Harvey Davies, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Kostas Tsimikas, Calvin Ramsay, Stefan Bajcetic, Wataru Endo, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott.

In terms of who could be next to sign a new deal, not many seem too likely. The door is still open for Kostas Tsimikas, Calvin Ramsay, Stefan Bajcetic, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott to leave this summer if suitable offers come in.

Alisson Becker is already expected to depart next summer, whilst renewals remain unlikely for Wataru Endo and Joe Gomez.

Virgil van Dijk could be the next one to sign a new deal, but that will depend on his performances this season.

The agreement with Szoboszlai at least shows a pro-active approach to stop the club from heading into situations like this again in the future.
