Liverpool Could Revisit Lamine Camara Transfer After Deadline Day Twist

Liverpool’s interest in Lamine Camara may have survived the closing of the summer transfer window, with David Lynch suggesting the Monaco midfielder could become one to watch again as early as January.

Speaking to Dave Davis on Anfield Index’s Media Matters podcast, Lynch discussed the extraordinary deadline day circumstances which left Camara at Monaco after a proposed move to Chelsea collapsed.

For Liverpool, the situation was particularly intriguing. Lynch had previously explained that the Reds were not looking to add another midfielder while Alexis Mac Allister remained at Anfield.

Now Camara remains available for another potential move.

Camara Interest Fits Liverpool Midfield Plans

Liverpool had monitored Camara previously, something Lynch reiterated when assessing the deadline day developments.

“Camara, we talked about him a while ago as well as someone that they’d at least watched,” Lynch told Davis.

The crucial issue was whether Liverpool could create room within their existing midfield.

“The question was, were they able to open up the midfield spots to do anything? That didn’t happen.”

Mac Allister staying at Liverpool was central to that position.

“It pretty much ties with what I said on this podcast, by the way, a couple of weeks ago about them not wanting a midfielder now and Mac Allister staying and being a key part of that.”

Chelsea Collapse Opens Liverpool Door

Camara appeared destined for Chelsea before the transfer fell apart late in the window. The Senegal international consequently remains a Monaco player, potentially giving Liverpool another opportunity.

“Comes back onto the radar now as a potential option for Liverpool,” Lynch said.

The reporter believes Liverpool could now monitor how the situation develops over the coming months.

“Does that mean in January, are they going to be looking at that situation? Where did things develop with Mac Allister in terms of where he might go?”

Lynch then offered a positive assessment of Camara’s suitability for Iraola’s midfield.

“I think Lamine Camara is a really good player and I, you know, I think he’d be quite good for this kind of double pivot that Liverpool are playing as well.”

Mac Allister Future Could Prove Crucial

Any Liverpool pursuit could therefore depend heavily upon Mac Allister.

Lynch pointed towards the Argentine’s contract situation when considering what could happen during the winter window.

“He’s going to be 18 months from the end of his contract come January. Does someone sniff around him there?”

That possibility immediately raises the prospect of Camara becoming a replacement.

“Is that an easy swap to do for Liverpool? Let’s keep an eye on it.”

Liverpool’s interest has existed for some time, while recent reporting has also indicated that Camara remained under consideration if Mac Allister departed.

Liverpool ultimately chose not to pursue another midfielder before the summer deadline. Camara staying at Monaco ensures the situation has not disappeared.

Lynch believes the next question concerns timing.

“They clearly want to be strong there, but it’s whether it’s going to be January or the summer.”

Waiting carries its own risk because another club could move first.

“If it’s not January, he gets snapped up in that time. So, let’s keep an eye on it.”

Liverpool therefore enter the coming months with an intriguing midfield situation developing in the background. Mac Allister remains important to Iraola, while Camara remains at Monaco following the collapse of his Chelsea move.

For Lynch, the connection between those two situations could eventually become significant.
