Wirtz interest needs to be kept in perspective
For Bayern Munich, Florian Wirtz represents both an opportunity they once pursued and a reminder that even carefully laid transfer plans can end in disappointment. That history makes fresh speculation easy to generate. It does not, on its own, make a transfer any more likely.
Writing in his Bayern Insider round-up for cfbayerninsider.com, Christian Falk has rejected suggestions that Bayern are currently tracking the Liverpool midfielder with a view to a surprise move.
“My information is that this is not true,” Falk said.
His account draws an important distinction between a player retaining admirers in Munich and Bayern actively preparing to sign him. According to Falk, there is no move planned.
Liverpool supporters can therefore judge this update on what it actually establishes. Bayern’s previous interest remains part of Wirtz’s story, but it is not evidence that his future is being negotiated elsewhere.
Bayern Munich have options closer to home
Falk reports that Bayern held two secret meetings before Wirtz chose Liverpool, with Arne Slot persuading the Germany international to move to Merseyside. Those conversations help explain why the link continues to attract attention.
They also risk obscuring what has changed since that decision.
Bayern already have Jamal Musiala on a long contract, while Vincent Kompany is exploring a central role for Michael Olise. Bringing another creative player into that group would require a sporting rationale as well as considerable financial commitment.
Falk also challenges the premise that Wirtz’s performances in England should automatically encourage speculation about an exit.
“I think Wirtz is performing better than he did last year,” he said, pointing to a change in the midfielder’s position.
That assessment matters because a transfer narrative can quickly gather momentum around a supposed problem. In this case, the reporter dismissing the Bayern link does not share the concerns being used to support it.
Olise contract decision could shape future thinking
There is, however, a longer-term question worth separating from the immediate speculation.
According to Falk, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl wants an indication next summer of whether Olise would consider extending his contract. His existing deal runs until 2029, and Bayern want to avoid allowing a valuable player to approach its expiry without clarity.
Should Olise eventually decide to leave, Bayern’s requirements could change. Falk identifies Wirtz as someone who could become interesting in those circumstances, given his ability to operate centrally or from a wider position.
That remains a conditional assessment. Falk discusses a possible Liverpool swap or an Olise sale to Real Madrid as scenarios that could create financial room, rather than reporting negotiations for either arrangement.
For now, Bayern hope Olise stays. Any suggestion that his future already provides a route for Wirtz to Munich goes beyond what this update supports.
Kane talks underline Bayern’s immediate priorities
While Wirtz remains a subject of speculation, Harry Kane’s future is the focus of more concrete activity.
Falk reports that a second round of contract discussions has begun, with Kane’s father, Pat, and brother, Charlie, in Germany for talks with Bayern officials. Both sides are described as optimistic about an agreement.
The proposed extension would run until at least 2029, although Falk says Kane could consider a longer commitment. Salary and the possible inclusion of a release clause are among the matters still to be resolved.
“He wants to win the Champions League with FC Bayern,” Falk said.
Taken together, these updates suggest Bayern’s immediate work centres on retaining established quality and clarifying future commitments. Wirtz may remain a name with obvious appeal, but admiration, circumstances and action are separate things. Falk’s message on the present position is clear: Bayern are not planning a move.
