Liverpool interest in Lamine Camara discussed by Lewis Steele

Liverpool’s interest in AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara was one of the more notable transfer points discussed by Lewis Steele and Dave Davis on Anfield Index’s Media Matters.

The conversation came alongside discussion of Aurelien Tchouameni, with Davis describing Camara as a player whose numbers had attracted attention. The transcript references Camara being “top for possession one, top for tackles made” and “top for tackles made and various articles that way”.

Steele then explained why he viewed the Lamine Camara situation differently from some of the other midfield names being discussed.

Lamine Camara was offered to Liverpool

Steele said: “I think Lamine Camara seems more likely at the moment just based on the fact that I think that he was offered to the club in the last week of the window and Liverpool decided not to budge on it.”

That provided the main point of the discussion. According to Steele, Liverpool had an opportunity to make a move before the window closed but chose not to proceed.

“I’m not really sure why because they definitely had a bit of money left in the tank,” Steele added.

He suggested one possible explanation was that Liverpool had already settled on their squad and had chosen to prioritise other areas.

“I think maybe they just settled on the squad that they were going to have at that point and they were putting all their eggs in the forward basket,” Steele said.

Camara remains one to watch

Steele’s comments also came with an assessment of Liverpool’s midfield at that stage of the season. He said: “I don’t think the midfield has been quite as bad as I feel it would be.”

He acknowledged that there was still uncertainty within the department, saying: “There is still a muddle in that midfield,” while adding that Liverpool had not yet faced all of the biggest tests.

That was followed by a more direct comment on Camara’s qualities.

“Lamine Camara looks a class act,” Steele said, before adding that “that could be one to watch for sure”.

The midfielder was therefore presented in the conversation as a Liverpool link worth monitoring, particularly given Steele’s claim that he had been offered to the club during the previous transfer window.

The discussion also included other midfield names, but Steele repeatedly returned to Camara as the player he felt was worth watching.

He concluded: “But yeah, definitely definitely Lamine Camara to watch.”

Dave Davis then suggested that the transfer links could simply be influenced by the international break, saying: “Yeah, might just be a quiet international break.”

Steele also left the door open to other possibilities, saying: “Wouldn’t completely rule out the others because we know they liked them in the past, but it does seem a bit farfetched just at this moment.”
