Liverpool Transfer for Guehi Edges Closer as Deadline Looms

Liverpool are closing in on a deal for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, with talks intensifying ahead of the transfer deadline. The Reds have pursued the 24-year-old defender throughout the summer and now appear to be edging towards an agreement.

According to Lewis Steele of the Mail, Liverpool are “getting closer to an agreement” with Palace, who are holding firm on their £40m valuation. Liverpool’s latest offer is understood to be £35m plus a 10 percent sell-on clause, while Palace are pushing for an additional £5m in performance-based add-ons.

With less than 24 hours remaining in the window, negotiations remain finely poised, but there is growing optimism that the move could be completed before the deadline.

Liverpool and Palace Continue to Negotiate

Palace manager Oliver Glasner has been clear about Guehi’s importance to his squad, resisting attempts to sanction a deal without a replacement secured.

“I told this to chairman we have to keep Marc if we want to play a successful season,” Glasner said after Palace’s 3-0 win over Aston Villa. “We have no chance to find the right replacement in one day. We all agreed that we just sell Marc if we have the right replacement in the building. We wanted a replacement by the 1st July. We have this agreement so it is clear from me. He is such a crucial player. He is one of our key players, he is our captain.”

Liverpool have rebuffed Palace’s attempts to include Joe Gomez in any negotiations, signalling their intent to secure Guehi outright.

Guehi’s Emotional Connection to Palace

Guehi’s performance against Villa showcased his talent, with a stunning goal and commanding display reinforcing why Liverpool are prepared to meet Palace’s demands. After the match, he reflected on his time at the club and his South London roots, while carefully addressing speculation over his future.

“I’m a South London boy. Grew up in South London. Captained the football club from a young age. They’ve been fantastic for me and my family. Definitely a pleasure to be playing for this football club,” he told Sky Sports.

“I don’t like the limelight too much. There’s a lot of cameras in my face all the time and constantly talking about me, but I’m lucky that I have a good club and teammates around me. When you focus on what’s important, the football, it makes it a lot easier. I’m glad I’ve had my family around me, the football club, the staff. It’s good.”

Deal Moving Towards Completion

Liverpool’s pursuit of Guehi highlights their determination to strengthen their defensive ranks with a player who blends leadership and Premier League experience. The coming hours will decide whether the transfer is finalised, but all signs suggest Liverpool are ready to secure the England international before the window shuts.
