Divock Origi’s Contract Termination: Could He Return to Liverpool?
Divock Origi’s exit from Liverpool in 2022 left a lasting mark on the club, with his iconic moments forever etched in Anfield’s history. However, after an unremarkable spell at AC Milan, Origi is now set to become a free agent following the termination of his contract. With Liverpool’s current attacking needs, could we see the Belgian striker return to Merseyside?
Origi’s Anfield Legacy
It’s impossible to talk about Divock Origi without remembering his pivotal role in some of Liverpool’s most historic moments. Who could forget his heroics during the 2019 Champions League semi-final? Trailing 3-0 on aggregate to Barcelona, Origi was the man who helped complete one of the most remarkable comebacks in football history. His brace in that legendary 4-0 win included the now-iconic ‘corner taken quickly’ goal, sealing Liverpool’s place in the final. His contributions weren’t limited to just that night, though, as his knack for scoring crucial goals continued to define his time at Anfield.
Struggles at AC Milan
Origi’s move to AC Milan in 2022 promised a fresh start, but his time in Italy has been less than fruitful. The 30-year-old struggled for regular game time, failing to make an impact in Milan’s attack. Across 36 appearances, he managed just two goals, a far cry from the striker who had delivered so many vital moments at Liverpool. Reports indicate that Origi has fallen out of favour with Milan’s management, and as Fabrizio Romano recently revealed, he is set to terminate his contract, becoming a free agent in January 2026.

Could Liverpool Reignite Their Interest?
With Origi now available on a free transfer, could Liverpool entertain the idea of bringing him back? The timing might be right for both parties. Liverpool are currently facing an injury crisis up front, with Alexander Isak sidelined for several months. This leaves Arne Slot with limited attacking options heading into the busy festive period, and there have been reports suggesting that the Reds are eyeing a forward in the upcoming transfer window.
A Possible Return to Anfield?
The prospect of Origi returning to Liverpool may not be as far-fetched as it seems. With the Reds in need of attacking depth, a second spell at Anfield could provide Origi with a chance to revive his career in familiar surroundings. While his time in Milan was less than stellar, there’s little doubt that Origi’s unique ability to score in high-pressure situations could prove useful to Liverpool once again.
