SCOUSER TOMMIES: A CLUB LIKE NO OTHER

SCOUSER TOMMIES: A CLUB LIKE NO OTHER

Jim Boardman and Jay Reid return for a new episode of Scouser Tommies, looking ahead to the pre-season tour and the season itself, as well as discussing the latest transfer stories. First of all, however, is the first chance for Jay and Jim to talk about the shocking and sudden loss of Diogo Jota. They discuss the impact of his passing on the club – players, coaches, staff, and fans – and even the wider footballing world. The club’s handling of the tragedy has been perfect, including the decision to retire Diogo’s No. 20 shirt, and it has been moving to see just how far and wide the tributes have come from. The Reds have now returned to action, with their first pre-season game a win over Preston last weekend. As Jay explains, it was odd to see the players still wearing last season’s shirts, but Nike have clearly stuck to their guns over their contract with the Reds. It won’t be until after the tour of Japan that we see our players donning the new Adidas offerings – not that it’s stopped said shirts from appearing elsewhere. The recruitment team at Anfield have already been busy this summer, mostly with players coming in, and the latest stories suggest there is still plenty of money available to spend. Jim and Jay discuss what this might mean for next season in terms of challenging on all fronts. With PSR (Profitability and Sustainability Rules) still in place, clubs are going to have to be more careful about how and when they spend their money. However, it seems Liverpool have plenty of headroom given the stadium expansion, strong commercial performance, and even stronger on-pitch performance. Not spending money for the sake of it last summer hasn’t done any harm either. Money isn’t everything, of course, and whilst plenty of it is still needed to sign players of the quality required to improve Liverpool, there’s far more to signing for the Reds than that. To fit in at Anfield, money would not be the clincher for the right kind of player. Jay and Jim talk about why playing at Anfield will be such a draw for potential new signings, and why it might just be what makes it so difficult for other clubs to hold onto their stars. This is how Liverpool qualify for the Champions League

Liverpool need 77 points to qualify for next seasons champions league, that's not my words, a "super computer" has taken the rest of the fixtures of all the top 6 teams and worked out all the possible results and the team to get 77 points will 100% qualify for the Champions League. With 76...

Are Liverpool really THAT bad against the Premier League’s weaker teams?

Make no bones about it, Liverpool are far better against their top-four rivals than those in the bottom-half of the Premier League. The statistics show that, and we can see with our own eyes that that is the case. The Reds have undoubtedly been poor when a number of so-called lesser teams have stood before them...

Fried Dutch Eggs – English Media Created Klopp’s Nemesis

We’ve been through a difficult patch. Liverpool squandered the momentum of late December with a string of lacklustre performances against substantially lesser sides, and we found ourselves teetering on the edge of the Champion’s League spots and crashing out of both the FA and League Cups. A byproduct of this disappointing run is the...

Should Liverpool and Klopp Part Ways if the Reds Miss out on the UCL?

When Liverpool beat Manchester City in a tense game at Anfield on New Years' Eve, the Reds were well placed for a serious title tilt. Back then, Jurgen Klopp's men were just six points behind EPL leaders Chelsea, while the mercurial Brazilian Philippe Coutinho was poised to return from a prolonged injury absence. At...

Kirkby Development Will Be Good For Liverpool

In a move that is guaranteed to cause more groans and whines of petulant exasperation than gasps of excited wonder, Liverpool Football Club today revealed images detailing the projected appearance of the planned state-of-the-art training complex in Kirkby. The plans for the £50m campus, which will house the extant Academy along with the first team,...

Emre Can shows he still has something to offer the Liverpool midfield

Liverpool's win over Arsenal on Saturday was filled with a lot of standout performances and memorable moments. Sadio Mane was rightly lauded for yet another goal, Roberto Firmino looked back to his best and Adam Lallana was praised for the fact he was practically everywhere throughout the match. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp even reserved special praise...

Adam Lallana and The Wrongs of Being Right

One of the best things about following, supporting and sharing any views on football is the unerring ability to be wrong. Seriously. Being wrong is great. It’s an incredibly underrated skill. Imagine a scenario where the opposite is the case. You go to the match or a pub or to someone’s house and you call everything with...

Table-Gazing: Where Will Liverpool Finish?

Sometimes, the worst thing you can do is look at the league table. The very worst. In fact, because I care about you, lovely reader, don't look at the league table. This morning, unnaturally early, Latest News gave what was supposed to be a brief, fact-checking glance at the Barclay's Premier standing of the...

Have the Red Men thrown away their chances in the league this season?

Back in mid-November 2016, the Mighty Reds were widely tipped for Premier League glory this season. Having scored 40 goals in 14 games, we were having our best start in 121 years. Fast-forward to 2017 and defeats at the hands of Sunderland and Leicester City and it looks like we won’t even make the top...

Could Mario Gotze play in the Liverpool midfield?

It was going to happen eventually. It was just inevitable so long as Jurgen Klopp was in charge but I doubt many envisaged it happening quite so soon after being diagnosed with a metabolic disorder. Mario Gotze is once again being linked with a move to Anfield just six months after rejecting a move to...

Desert Island Reds: My Dream Liverpool XI

My Desert Island Line-Up is made up of players who have represented Liverpool from 1989, when I first started supporting the club, to the present day. The formation is 4-3-3: GK Pepe Reina Liverpool have had some truly dodgy goalkeepers in the past 28 years (David James, Sander Westerveld, Jerzy Dudek to name but three) so...

Klopp Admits Frustration With Rollercoaster Reds

Before Saturday's kick-off and throughout much of the match, Latest News found the rare leisure time to indulge fully in the online experience of the foreign Red. Essentially that boils down to scanning Twitter relentlessly and resisting the urge to berate the stunningly huge amount of gloom merchants who seem to positively thrive on...

Liverpool’s Plan B: Tactical Tweaking of 4-2-3-1?

It’s not exactly been the best start to 2017 for Liverpool, with their dismal January form continuing for much of February. An impressive win against Premier League rivals Tottenham ought to have provided a platform with which to build on heading into the business end of the season. However, Liverpool once again failed to...

Which Liverpool players are playing for their futures?

Following last Monday evening's defeat against Leicester City at the King Power stadium, Jurgen Klopp stated everyone was playing for their futures from now on. Liverpool's fall from grace in 2017 has been devastating having picked up just three victories since the turn of the new year. Poor performance after poor performance has put the starting XI...

Observations from Liverpool’s win against Arsenal

Liverpool were back to their Dr Jekyll best in the 3-1 win over Arsenal on Saturday evening. It came in the same week Mr Hyde had made an appearance at the King Power stadium as Leicester vanquished some of their demons and put a dent in our top four challenge. The Reds hosted Arsenal knowing...

Liverpool’s Plan B: Time for the Hipster 3-4-3?

Under Klopp, 2016 was a fantastic year. Goals galore, two cup finals and the development of players such as Roberto Frimino and Adam Lallana. The German tactician started off using a fluid 4-2-3-1/4-1-4-1 formation during the latter months of last season which morphed into an efficient 4-3-3 for the first half of the season. With...

Liverpool 3 Arsenal 1 – Player Ratings

The Robin Hoods of English football are back. Liverpool were well-deserved 3-1 winners at Anfield against an Arsenal side who fought back after the break following what was an abject first half from them. Goals from Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane gave the Reds a 2-0 lead and Gini Wijnaldum sealed the win for the...

Leicester must be a watershed game for Klopp

They say you shouldn't write about your team when you're angry and after that abject display against Leicester, I was both furious and embarrassed. Therefore, I thought it best to take some time before reflecting on the game. Unfortunately, 48 hours has done little to quell my emotions. I have unashamedly been an advocate of...

Why criticism of Nathaniel Clyne is justified

Liverpool's performances of late have been nothing short of uninspiring and a number of players have come under criticism in recent weeks. The usual names of Dejan Lovren, Lucas Leiva, Emre Can and Simon Mignolet have been ringing out on social media but in 2017, Nathaniel Clyne has joined the group of players receiving criticism. A...

Roberto Firmino: A False or Faulty-Nine?

As the dust settles on yet another Liverpool FC setback in their pursuit of a Champions League spot come the end of the season, attention is justifiably set on Liverpool's defence. The Reds are on course to concede over 50 goals in a league season again, and conceded 3 goals to Leicester, a team who...

Liverpool vs Arsenal Preview: Reds Need to Bounce Back

The two 'bottlers' of the top six will go head-to-head in Saturday evening's late kick-off as the Premier League season starts to heat up. Liverpool will be hoping to brush off a terrible start to 2017 with a victory in their first game in March. It comes off the back of an incredibly poor performance...

Liverpool v Arsenal Preview – Key Battles

After a humbling defeat at Leicester on Monday, Liverpool are back with a huge Premier League game at Anfield on Saturday. Arsenal are the visitors and Jurgen Klopp's men will hope that their wonderful form against the top-six this season continues. It will be a challenge though. The Reds are once again expected to be...

Liverpool FC Squad Analysis: The (Lack of) Depth Chart

At the start of the season I was quietly confident in the strength and potential of Klopp’s squad considering the lack of European football. Coming into the final 12 games and the worrying lack of depth and quality in key positions has come to the fore. Milner has played most of the season as left...

A Time For Tough Questions, Not Sympathy At Liverpool

There’s usually solace in defeat. As the Reds trumped off the pitch at the KC Stadium this month with catcalls ringing in their ears, many of us thought that that was to be the season low, the nadir, the point at which we look back at and say ‘That’s when things began to change.’ They did...

How to calculate the perfect ratio in betting?

In betting, the ratio is not always the hallmark of the superiority of one team over the other, but it has become a tradition in the sport, that from a mathematical point of view, this number serves as a distinguishing feature and it’s also an unshakable constant deterrent. We will tell the best soccer...

Klopp admits Liverpool stars playing for their futures

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admits he and his players are under pressure following Monday night’s 3-1 defeat to Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. The struggling Foxes shook off their recent poor form and moved out of the relegation zone with the victory while defeat leaves Liverpool’s top four hopes in jeopardy. The race...

Yes, Klopp Is To Blame. Now What?

"Consistency is to do what you have to do always. We’ve brought ourselves into a situation where everyone can doubt our attitude. That’s really our fault, our mistake and nobody else’s." Jürgen Klopp If you're bothering to read anything associated with Liverpool FC this morning then you are either calm enough to put football into some...

Midfielders in Defence: For how much longer?

As Liverpool suffered yet another calamitous defeat, the repetitive thought was how much longer could Liverpool afford to deploy this make-shift back line? James Milner When Milner was touted to be the first choice left-back in August, there was a mixture of amazement and worry at the decision. His initial performances seemed to be meeting the...

Liverpool Are Lacking That One True Superstar

As Zlatan Ibrahimovic inspired Manchester United to their League Cup triumph on Sunday afternoon, it was impossible not to feel a twinge of jealousy. Liverpool’s most bitter rivals had been outplayed for much of the game against a slick Southampton side, but Ibrahimovic was ultimately the difference between the two sides. The legendary Swede has been...

Negative moments in betting by simulating the match

Of course, computer simulation of matches, even those in which the leadership clearly belongs to one of the teams can not be the final reflection of for the need of strategy in the game, due to the high risk of loss based on the real matches. It is not like real betting on horses...
