Andoni Iraola Heaps Praise on Jeremy Jacquet After Brilliant Liverpool Start
Jeremy Jacquet has been one of the standout performers for Liverpool so far this season.
At just 21 years of age, eyebrows were raised when the Reds splashed £60m to bring him to Anfield from Stade Rennais.
But those doubt have quickly been squashed. The Frenchman has been rewarded for his start with a nomination for Premier League’s September Player of the Month Award.
He also made his first couple of appearances for France after being called up by Zinedine Zidane.
Jacquet missed the third game of the international break with a minor issue, but is expected to be available for Liverpool’s clash with Manchester City on Sunday.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Andoni Iraola said: “Obviously he has done very well. Firstly because he is a very good player and everyday in training you can appreciate what he has.”
“I’m also very happy for him personally. To make his debut for France, that is always difficult to get that chance, but he played very well.”
“He should be happy, but there’s still a long way to go. But he has started the season very well, yes.”
When asked whether Jacquet is ready for Sunday’s clash, Iraola provided a firm answer: “Yes, he is fit, he is ready to go.”
“He didn’t play in France’s last game for protection but he should be fine. We still need to train tomorrow, but he is fine.”
However, there was some bad news for Liverpool fans. Iraola confirmed that both Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo will not be available for Sunday’s clash with Man City.
The duo picked up injuries during the international break and remain sidelined.
