Adam Lallana was given another run at the base of Liverpool’s midfield, in what Jurgen Klopp called the ‘Jorginho’ role, during the first half of Liverpool’s 3-1 win at Bradford City on Sunday.

Klopp experimented with Lallana in this position for the second half of Liverpool’s win at Prenton Park last Thursday and wanted to see the former Southampton player in the same role again at Bradford.

Two goals from James Milner (one penalty) and another Rhian Brewster strike gave Liverpool a 3-1 win on the day.

As reported in The Telegraph, Klopp mentioned Lallana’s battle to get back into first-team contention at the club and about his potential in the ‘Jorginho’ role.

“Adam is the kind of player who can play that and he enjoys this ‘Jorginho’ role – I hope Maurizio Sarri doesn’t see the games or he will make an offer.

“It is about getting Adam rhythm, bringing him in early and doing things he is naturally good at – small spaces, passing the ball, and then from time-to-time offering the runs in behind as well and together with Milly (James Milner) that is possible. For us it is another option.

“He needs a bit of luck, like we all do in life. We have to come through without injuries, that would be cool, and then we have a couple of new players, I would say, this season.”

With Fabinho as the recognised defensive midfielder in the Liverpool team, Lallana will certainly have a job on his hands in displacing the Brazilian from the starting eleven. However, he may be an option for Klopp when playing teams that will not offer a huge attacking threat and where a little more creativity from the middle of the park is needed.
