Andoni Iraola Confirms Liverpool are Looking at Signing More Than Just Wingers
It has been a long summer for Liverpool. Both Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz arrived early in the window, before Ronald Araujo arrived on loan from Barcelona a couple of weeks ago.
Now Liverpool’s attention has turned to bolstering their attacking options. The Reds have agreed a £120m deal with Paris Saint-Germain over the transfer of Bradley Barcola.
They have also seen bids rejected for both Yankuba Minteh and Ismaila Sarr in recent days.
However, Liverpool have so far been unable to improve their midfield department, which was a glaring weakness in their disastrous title defence last season.
In fact, their midfield options have actually gotten weaker with Curtis Jones leaving for Inter Milan in a £30m deal.
Those midfield problems were clear to see yet again in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw at Newcastle United on opening weekend.
Now just five days remain in the transfer window, but head coach Andoni Iraola has provided a glimmer of hope for Liverpool supporters…
Iraola Makes Transfer Claim
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Nottingham Forest, Iraola was asked about the club’s transfer plans for the remainder of the window.
When asked whether Liverpool could strengthen their squad further in the upcoming days, he said: “There are certain things we can but it’s true we need players in the wide areas.”
“I’m sure if we can improve other areas we will but I don’t know how the market is going to finish. I have to be patient as well as you.”
“It’s very uncomfortable for me as you are dealing with uncertainties all the time. In four or five days we will know what we have and then we can make proper plans.”

Iraola has made his feelings clear on the current shape of Liverpool’s squad. It’s now up to the Liverpool hierarchy and sporting director Richard Hughes to give him the best chances of succeeding…
