Liverpool’s 17-year-old defender Ki-Jana Hoever has committed his future to the club by signing a new three-year contract with the Reds this week.
The young Dutch defender can play at right-back or centre-back and made his first-team debut for Liverpool in last January’s FA Cup defeat at Wolves.
The club obviously holds Hoever in high regard with this new deal so the future is looking very bright indeed for the youngster.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Hoever’s quotes showed excitement at the deal and maturity about what will now be expected of him going forward.
“I’m really happy to have signed here.
“I need to be realistic. I hope to make some minutes in the first team this year, of course, but I know that I will probably play more games for the U23s. I will just train hard with the first team, show them what I can do and if there is a chance, I will be ready. That’s what I am hoping for.
“I still need to learn a lot of things. I am still 17, so I just need to keep doing what I am doing to get better at the things that can be better.
“It’s a lot of trust from the club to let me sign this new contract. I will try to do them proud and show what I can do for this club – and I hope these are not the last few years I play here.”
Hoever could be called up for some first-team action during the 2019/20 campaign now that Nathaniel Clyne has suffered an ACL injury.
Clyne’s injury will keep him out until February at least so Hoever is the next in line if Trent Alexander-Arnold gets injured or needs to be rotated.
