Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp is reported to have contacted the father of PSG’s young France international superstar Kylian Mbappé.
French publication Le10Sport claims that the purpose of the call was to test the waters regarding any potential bid The Reds may make for the 21-year-old forward. Mbappé’s current PSG contract expires in 2022.
Most of Europe’s top clubs will be enquiring about Mbappé’s situation during the next transfer window. That interest will only increase further as time goes on without the youngster signing a new contract at the French Ligue 1 club.
Klopp, it seems, wants to get ahead of the game and feels he can do that by establishing a relationship with Mbappe’s father, Wilfried.
While most mainstream media outlets believe Real Madrid is where Mbappé is most likely to end up after PSG, Klopp is not willing to throw in the towel just yet.
Speaking last summer after winning the Ligue 1 Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards, Mbappé said:
“I think that it is a very important moment for me as I feel that I am approaching a first, or second turning point in my career.
“I have discovered a lot of things here and I feel that it is perhaps time for greater responsibility.
“I hope that it will be with PSG, which would be with great pleasure, or maybe elsewhere with a new project.”
Mbappé is probably the hottest young talent in world football right now. He burst onto the scene with some scintillating performances during Monaco’s run to the semi-finals of the 2016/17 Champions League. PSG signed Mbappé shortly afterwards.
It’s widely believed that Mbappé will become the best player on the planet within the next ten years. What club he will be with remains to be seen.
