Newly-crowned Premier League champions Liverpool travel to face last season’s title winners Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium tonight. We’ve had a look at the lineup Jürgen Klopp is likely to go with.
The Reds will likely go strong as Klopp and co look to beat Manchester City’s 100 points record total from the 2017/18 campaign.
With five substitutes allowed per game for the remainder of this season, some youngsters are expected to get plenty of game-time for Liverpool over the coming weeks.
Starting against Manchester City, however, it should be the strongest starting eleven Klopp has available.
Joël Matip is out for the rest of the season while James Milner’s hamstring injury also rules him out for the moment. Both players picked up their injuries in the 0-0 draw at Everton.
Alisson will continue in goals for Liverpool with what I think is Klopp’s preferred back four in front of him – Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson.
Fabinho will start as the defensive midfielder with Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum just ahead of him.
The front three is likely to remain the same – Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané.
Other players such as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Divock Origi will be knocking on the door, too. They’re likely to feature at some stage at the Etihad.
Meanwhile, youngsters like Harvey Elliott, Neco Williams and Curtis Jones could also be given some big-game experience at some stage in the second half.
