Liverpool are reported to be keeping tabs on Leicester City’s creative young forward Harvey Barnes.
Barnes, 22, likes to play on the left-side of midfield or attack. He can also play the ’10’ role behind the striker(s) as an attacking playmaker.
Scoring six goals and providing 8 assists this season has seen Barnes’ profile rise in the Premier League. He played an important role in Leicester’s season under Brendan Rodgers and it’s certain Rodgers would be keen to hold on to the young star.
According to the Mirror, however, Liverpool are after Barnes’ signature as Jürgen Klopp and co see him as the perfect addition to the attacking talent already in The Reds’ squad.
The article states that Barnes ‘has impressed Jürgen Klopp with his energy and forceful running’ and that ‘Klopp also believes there is plenty to come from the England ÂUnder-21 international’.
John Richardson’s piece goes on to say that ‘Liverpool know Barnes can play in various positions, but they will find it hard to prise him from the King Power Stadium.
Barnes would fit the club’s model of buying young players they can develop with good sell-on potential.
Moreover, he would help boost the club’s options further up the field as he could slot in on the left side of the Reds’ three-man attack, as well as across the midfield.‘
Barnes burst onto the scene during his loan spell at West Brom in 2018/19. He played 26 games in the Championship while netting 9 goals and laying on six assists. That form persuaded Leicester to recall him early from his loan in January 2019.
Adam Lallana leaves Liverpool for Brighton this summer and Barnes could be seen as the ideal squad replacement for the creative midfielder.
