Jürgen Klopp insists there should “not be a problem” with Virgil van Dijk’s head injury he suffered during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Red Bull Salzburg.

Van Dijk went off early in the second half after receiving a head injury. He was replaced by young defender Nathaniel Phillips. Liverpool’s number 4 was visibly bleeding from the cut to the right of his head. However, Klopp was quick to allay any potential fears Reds fans had about a long-term injury to the Dutch international.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com after the game, Klopp said:

“Virg only looks like he has a piercing now and has a plaster on it. It should not be, and is, no problem. In the moment it is of course not cool but there will not be a problem.”

Liverpool had to come from two goals down to earn a draw. Red Bull Salzburg’s Patson Daka put his team 2-0 up inside the first 15 minutes.

The Reds’ in-form Rhian Brewster came on to provide two great finishes in less than half an hour of playing time as Liverpool fought their way back.

Brewster also managed to get on the scoresheet in Saturday’s 3-0 win over VfB Stuttgart. Still only 20, Liverpool’s young striker managed 10 goals in 20 appearances on loan at Swansea in the Championship in 2019/20.

Jürgen Klopp may well decide to give Brewster some playing time in the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium on Saturday against Arsenal. Thankfully, it looks like Virgil van Dijk will also be available for selection for The Reds.
