Klopp's post-match update on Trent Alexander-Arnold injury
Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp is today waiting on the scan results of the calf injury sustained by right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold on Sunday.
Alexander-Arnold went off injured after 63 minutes of The Reds’ 1-1 draw at Manchester City in the Premier League.
Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool the lead with an early penalty before City’s Gabriel Jesus equalised before half-time. The home side then had a penalty of their own in the 42nd minute after a very harsh handball decision against Joe Gomez. However, Kevin De Bruyne pulled his spot-kick wide.
In the second half, Alexander-Arnold pulled up after seemingly pulling something in his calf and was replaced by James Milner at right-back.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Klopp confirmed that the Liverpool right-back will not be fit to join the England camp during this international break.
“Trent will be out for England, that is clear.
“What he has, we don’t know, but he cannot play for England. He will not be the last and not the only one who Gareth [Southgate] will miss for this international break.
“He will have a scan tomorrow and then we will see.”
Liverpool will return to Premier League action after the break with a home game against top-of-the-table Leicester City, managed by former Reds boss Brendan Rodgers.
If Alexander-Arnold is still injured then Klopp will have to choose between James Milner and Neco Williams to fill in at right-back. Alternatively, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, if fit, can also deputise in Alexander-Arnold’s spot for a week or two if needed.
Liverpool’s injury woes look set to continue and with such a hectic schedule over the next couple of months, there could certainly be more issues to deal with as the season progresses.
