Liverpool’s Diogo Jota returned to full training with the first-team squad at the club’s AXA Training Centre this week.
Jota has been out of action since picking up a knee injury in The Reds’ 1-1 draw away to FC Midtjylland in their Champions League group clash back in December. The former Wolves forward had made a fantastic start to his Anfield career since his signing last September, scoring 9 goals already.
In a week where rumours were circulating that Jordan Henderson could now be missing the rest of the season with a groin strain suffered in last weekend’s Merseyside derby defeat at Anfield, Liverpool fans everywhere will be delighted to finally hear some good news on the injury front. Jota’s return will also provide some much-needed rotation for Liverpool’s front three as Jürgen Klopp’s side prepare for a battle to finish in the top four in the Premier League.
Jota could be seen partaking in a full training session, via Liverpoolfc.com, on a day when the talismanic Virgil van Dijk also stepped up his rehabilitation with an individual outdoor training session.
After missing more than two months of first-team action, Jota will need several training sessions to return to anywhere near full fitness so don’t expect to see him in the squad for a couple more weeks at least.
Next up for The Reds is a visit to Bramall Lane on Sunday night to face Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United. Then, the following Thursday, Thomas Tuchel brings his Chelsea team to Anfield in what is an absolutely massive game in the race for a top-four finish.
