Klopp's squad update in pre-match press conference

Jürgen Klopp gave the latest squad update in his pre-match press conference as time winds down towards kick-off between Liverpool and Atalanta.

The Reds beat their Serie A visitors 5-0 in Italy earlier this month on a night when Diogo Jota was the star man, bagging a hat-trick for himself. Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané scored Liverpool’s two other goals on the night.

A win at Anfield tonight would secure passage to the Champions League knockout stages for Klopp’s side with two games remaining. Liverpool have won all three games so far and are yet to concede a goal.

Injuries have stolen some of the headlines regarding Liverpool this season with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez both out for the best part of what remains of this season. Thiago Alcântara is still missing since the Merseyside derby and Trent Alexander-Arnold is also out. Naby Keïta went off injured in the win over Leicester City on Sunday and is out for the next few weeks.

The good news is that both Jordan Henderson and Mohamed Salah should be back in action this week.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Klopp was asked for any updates on his Liverpool squad:

“Mo trained with the team yesterday and looked really good.

“The test was negative – all the tests were negative – so, if nothing changed since yesterday, he is available. Now we have to see what we do with that because he was quarantined until three days ago.”

Klopp was also keen not to give too much away ahead of the Atalanta game:

“All the rest, no news. One looks closer, the other one looks not that close, so that’s how the situation is and we’ll see who is available.

“I don’t want to speak too much about it because I have no idea who Atalanta can bring into this game, so why should we give any kind of information to them?”

Liverpool vs Atalanta kicks off at 8pm tonight at Anfield.
