Liverpool and Manchester City meet at Anfield this Sunday. The Reds have lost their last two home games in the league and will be eager to get back to winning ways on their home turf.
Jürgen Klopp and his men know that the visitors are now the hot favourites to win this season’s Premier League title after Liverpool surrendered six points at home to Burnley and Brighton in recent weeks.
For Sunday’s game, it’s hoped that both Fabinho and Sadio Mané will be fit and available for selection. So, for the sake of our sanity, let’s just go with that and take it that both of those players can play against City.
Liverpool are without Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Joël Matip, Naby Keïta, and Diogo Jota. Alisson Becker missed Wednesday’s game with Brighton due to ‘illness’ so it’s unclear if the goalkeeper will be back this weekend. Let’s hope that he is.
It would be a very tough game to give a debut to anyone so don’t expect to see Ozan Kabak or Ben Davies in the starting lineup. For that reason, I think Nat Phillips and Fabinho will be the pairing in central defence. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson will continue at right and left-back respectively.
With Fabinho possibly returning, that means Jordan Henderson can move back up into midfield. I think the midfield trio will consist of Henderson, Thiago and Gini Wijnaldum.
The front three should be Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané.
