Liverpool are rumoured to be interested in making a move for Sampdoria’s Mikkel Damsgaard after the Danish star impressed at the Euros.
It was Damsgaard’s impressive free-kick that put Denmark ahead against England in the semi-finals of the European Championship last week. The 21-year-old versatile forward can play as an attacking midfielder or forward either on the left or through the middle.
After two goals and an assist at the Euros, Damsgaard’s stock has risen and there is no doubt about the potential the player has to get a whole lot better in the coming years.
The Mirror reports, via Gazzetta dello Sport, Liverpool could be set to do battle with Spurs for the signature of the young Dane.
It is also claimed that Barcelona and Juventus could look to add Damsgaard to their ranks.
Damsgaard joined Sampdoria from Danish club FC Nordsjælland in July 2020 for around €7 million. He made 35 appearances (18 starts) in Serie A last season, getting two goals and four assists while playing mainly on the left of midfield.
Damsgaard’s apparent versatility would be ideal for a squad player joining Liverpool’s ranks but it remains to be seen just how trustworthy these initial reports are.
Sampdoria have the upper hand in any potential transfer deal as well. The Italian club has Damsgaard under contract for another three years so they will be in no hurry to cash in and sell him on the cheap this summer.
