Joe Gomez
A brilliant defender, that is simply part of an elite group of defenders. His versatility allowed him a rare start, and he gave his very best throughout. A clearly different version to Trent’s world class level, but Joe was intent on making a strong impression. Some strong running and smart passing was even dent throughout, and he far outshone Kostas at left.
Showed great willingness to give width, tremendous energy throughout, and covered his centre backs with a real urgency. He could become a real asset in these closing months, where moments of increased steel may be needed.
To have such a talented player as fourth choice (in his own position), is superb and saddening in equal measure. He showed he can continually be relied upon, in a very good display of both leadership and composure.
This may be Joe’s last season as a red, and hopefully we get to see a few more performances of this nature, given its high level.
