Which Liverpool Players Should Make Way for The Regeneration?

The worse this Liverpool team gets, the more likely there will be wholesale changes within the club. I don’t think the manager is a certainty to start next season in our dugout, but there are many players I would rather see leave before our illustrious German coach. Klopp has recently dismissed the notion of being too loyal, so time will only tell whether he will have the conviction, to pull the trigger on certain individuals within his playing squad. His ruthlessness could be the deciding factor in his own fate, which I hope he can live up to.

Below is a list of the players within that first team squad, with my own views on whether they should stay or be moved on.

Alisson Becker – Keep

We would be fighting alongside Everton if not for the world class performances of this giant Brazilian.

Caoimhin Kelleher – Sell

This is a man that needs first team football, whilst the reds need as much funds as possible. With Marcelo Pitaluga ready to step up, it would mean signing an experienced player to add experience and assist in the quota.

Projected fee – £20m

Replacement –

Adrian – Sell

With his contract ending, it should be time to freshen up the goalkeeping ranks.

Projected fee – Free

Replacement – Lukasz Fabianski

Trent Alexander Arnold – Keep

The midfield and defensive structure needs to be built to enhance the best from certain players, with Trent being one of them.

Calvin Ramsay – Loan

This young man needs minutes, with Joe Gomez becoming the back-up right back.

Andy Robertson – Keep

The form has dropped, yet maybe with some more controlled possession and stability in midfield, he can become an asset once more.

Next season could be his last as a red.

Kostas Tsimikas – Sell

The able back-up is not able to replace or offer the required competition to Robbo. With his stock fairly high, he should be moved on.

Projected fee – £25m

Replacement – Jamal Lewis

Virgil van Dijk – Keep

The defensive pair of him and Ibou needs the back up and rotation pieces it deserves. Virgil should be installed as team captain from next season. A world class operator that needs the midfield to offer him assurance.

Ibrahima Konaté – Keep

The future leader and elite level defender is imperative. The evolution of this team should revolve around this man.

Joël Matip – Sell

As much as I like the player, the injuries and inconsistency within his game make him a constant liability. We should be moving him on and taking the money for reinforcements.

Projected fee – £15m

Replacement – Joško Gvardiol

Nat Phillips – Sell

The time has come, he really must move on.

Projected fee – £7m

Replacement – Sepp van den Berg

Joe Gomez – Keep

I know he’s had some very tough games, but I would still have him as part of a flexible back line group. In Joško Gvardiol, I would make a case for pushing Joe to the back up right back / 4th choice centre back role. Gvardiol would become a starter at left back, with his ability to play centrally a key asset. Quota means we have to ensure certain players are retained, whilst recognising that the value of Gomez is not what it once was.

Thiago Alcantara – Keep

Build a ferocious stable of middle men that can allow this work to work. His talent is unique and so important. What we saw recently, was Luka Modrić having both Federico Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga enforcing the midfield, whilst the Croatian legend ran the show. With the midfield replacements I’ll be stating, it would certainly make that possible.

Jordan Henderson – Keep

With a long contract, the trust of the manager, the respect of his peers, he should become the Milner replacement. Being able to give 20 minutes at the end of games (and starts in the cups) should be his limit. He serves as a quota player also.

Fabinho – Sell

He can no longer do what it once said on the tin. We need dynamic ball winners that can eat up both the ground and the opposing players.

Projected fee – £30m

Replacement – Moisés Caicedo

Naby Keita – Sell

With his contract dwindling, he appears to be set on leaving. I would look to re-sign him as a solid squad option, but I think I’m in the minority.

Projected fee – Free

Replacement – Matheus Nunes

James Milner – Sell

It appears he may stay on and could offer short term cover at right back, but if we really want to move on, he should probably move into a coaching role.

Projected fee – Free

Replacement – Manuel Ugarte

Curtis Jones – Loan

If a very good offer comes in, then maybe a permanent deal would make sense. If not, then a loan to enhance his growth and value would be logical.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – Sell

Such a shame for this talented footballer, who only showed for a brief period of what he could have been for Liverpool.

Projected fee – Free

Replacement – Michael Olise

Stefan Bajčetić – Keep

A young man with enormous potential, that should be guided rather than overplayed. A rotation role should be his duty next season, behind three new starting midfielders.

Harvey Elliott – Keep

In a system that could evolve, he would be a good back up on the right-hand side. In a 4-2-3-1 formation, he could be moulded into a more attacking asset.

Fábio Carvalho – Loan

For the players we are targeting, he could perhaps offer a great opportunity to both sides in any potential deal. If Liverpool were to pursue Olise, he could represent a player that would suit their own system, whilst gaining much needed experience.

Luis Díaz – Keep

Any new look attack has to involve this sensational footballer.

Darwin Núñez – Keep

A monstrous talent who should have the central role, with patterns of play designed to his strengths.

Mohamed Salah – Keep

He has the world class ability to immerse himself within a fresher team, whilst becoming the attacking talisman to guide us back to the top.

Diogo Jota – Keep

A goal scoring rotation player that can serve many needs within the attack. Another player that needs the structure to suit his game.

Roberto Firmino – Sell

It’s time to move on and bring in the younger players to be the backup options. The contract extension is still in the air.

Projected fee – Free

Replacement – Ben Doak / Kaide Gordon

  1. Like it………….apart from Gomez as a Keep option………..SELL all day long. Hes embarassing. Oh and Trent should become a part time right back with a more stoic right back required. Trent for games that Liverpool deem to have more possession.

  2. I WOULD LIKE THE PLAYERS TO LOOK WHAT SHANKLY SAID ITS A PRIVILEGE TO KNOW WHO YOUR PLAYING FOR.I dont agree with over passing which is a hard watch when its slow to be at times for no one is running off the ball to create space which a lot of time nothing not even a corner comes from it . All these free kick goals training ground on you tube then in a match it goes missing Firstly Jurgen takes the plaudits so must take feedback other way. You dont wait until a player is past it before you sell them Bob PAISLEY was the Daddy of all Liverpool Managers . Sadly Jurgen the lovely German He trusted players like Fabinho Sure Kieta was even playing better after 2021 season who shouldve been gone before this year.. The way people YAP on we miss Mane who created a NARRATIVE went out of his way to be offended at Jurgen ‘s comment on afcon which Jurgen is right it is a small competition Mane Stating letting the fans decide his mind was made up. we dont miss Mane. Where was Mane and others 2021 when 7 matches Liverpool couldn’t score. Beaten 5 or 6 times at ANFIELD. Also who I really liked Mane and Salah was at Afcon Liverpool won 11 matches drew Carabau Cup Semi final first leg won 2nd leg 2 fa cup matches .Id keep JAMES MILNER AND JORDAN HENDERSON CAN GIVE AT LEAST 1 HALF OF A MATCH at least to milner who was superb against Newcastle .JOE GOMEZ is on I cringe so I SELL HE IS NOT GOT THAT what is needed I’d keep Kelleher. Carvalho needs more game time made enough fuss on signing him. WELL has Firmino still got enough in the legs and QUALITY ANY LONGER .?? Or is he not in the notion. I feel THIAGO is brilliant passing generally 8 out if 10 is still very good. SLOWS DOWN THE PLAY TOO MUCH caught in possession quite alot. I’d keep the Greek scouser Tsikimas .

  3. I would like Bellingham and or Rice Or Matheus Nunes . I’m sorry How can anyone want to keep Joe. I’ve absolutely no confidence watch him play too often. I dont understand how nat Philips is not getting on for he came in 2021 season and done well.quite often kept LIVERPOOL’S nuts out of the fire. Robertson Keep konate keep Van Dijk THE new young players that have come in NOT TO go out on loan THATS A stupid idea really stupid they need to go with Liverpool for this season another preseason and Doaks, Carvalho. SELL Curtis Jones HE is not up to it in matches I’ve seen. 1Fabinho 2Gomez 3 kieta 4Jones 5 Matip 6 Oxalade Chamberlain

  4. As much as I and probably every other LFC supporter would love to see it, I don’t see us signing seven players in the summer. I’m thinking four at best, potentially three midfielders and one centre back. I’d also be surprised to see Fabinho leave, just have a feeling he’ll be around for at least one more season after this one. This is all of course pure speculation on my part! I do think you’re right in thinking that Kelleher will move on this summer, if that does happen I’d like to see a buyback clause inserted into any deal, although if I’m not mistaken such things are rare in English football. I also think those fees for Joel Matip and Nat Philips should be switched around, I could be mistaken but it seems like £15m is too high for a Joel Matip who will be nearly 32 by then, and £7m for a 25 year old Nat Philips is too low, I recognise that Philips has barely played recently, but he’s definitely premier league quality, just not quite at the level of where we want to be. One thing we all definitely know is that this HAS to be a big summer for LFC, hopefully that happens.

  5. I don’t believe you watch any of our games this season…although opinions are varied i think some situations are very obvious to see and judge…you want to sell tsimikas, fabinho and keep Henderson and joe gomez…don’t want to believe it’s because they are English…I’d be very disappointed
