Liverpool 4 – 1 Huddersfield Town – 23/02/11
The midweek game saw Huddersfield visit Kirkby and another confident performance from the young Reds, who took the lead in the 1st half after Adorjan & Sterling linked up once again. A long through-ball from the Hungarian sent Raheem through on goal, and the N0. 7 produced a neat finish to flick the ball passed the onrushing keeper.
After soaking up some Huddersfield pressure wither side of halftime Liverpool went 2-0 up just after the break following some excellent work from Adam Morgan. The Scouse striker picked up the ball in a wide right position, then cut inside beating two defenders before an excellent left foot finish from just outside the area. Krisztian Adorjan made it 3-0 from the penalty spot after Sterling was brought down, then Morgan added a fourth with another finish of true quality. Toni Silva; who was excellent down the right wing throughout; was fouled after some skilful play and took the free kick himself. The resulting delivery was only ever half cleared by the Huddersfield defence, allowing Adorjan to flick the ball into the path of Morgan who hit a rising drive past the goalkeeper on the half volley.  The assist was Adorjan’s seventh of the season, highlighting his importance as a creative influence playing in the typical No.10 role as a withdrawn forward.
Although the youngsters lost their clean sheet with Huddersfield grabbing a consolation in stoppage time, it was another superb display from Liverpool who extended their winning streak to seven. Another positive was the return to the side of Andre Wisdom at centre back, who having not played with the U18’s so far this season will only strengthen the side against ahead of the clash with Manchester United in the next round of the Youth Cup.
