Henderson To Join Gerrard at Al Ettifaq? – Mere Speculation

Liverpool Captain’s Saudi Arabia Rumours Dismissed

Football is a realm teeming with speculation and whispering rumours. Recently, they have connected Jordan Henderson, the captain of Liverpool, with an unexpected leap to the Saudi Pro League, to join Steven Gerrard at Al Ettifaq. However, this whisper from Anfield to Arabia appears to be mere noise.

As per the reports today from journalist David Lynch, writing for This Is Anfield, any potential move involving Jordan Henderson and Al Ettifaq seems to be nothing more than pure conjecture.

The rumours came alive once Gerrard, former comrade of Henderson at Anfield, took the managerial reins of Al Ettifaq. Nevertheless, sources affiliated with the Saudi club have termed these conjectures as pure speculation, with no actual talks underway.

It’s hard to imagine the 33-year-old, who’s been an embodiment of Liverpool’s spirit, considering a move away from the Premier League. The switch to Saudi Arabia seems particularly unlikely. Liverpool has received no enquiries concerning their skipper, and one could presume that Henderson might be resistant to such a departure.

Moreover, such a move might cloud his prospects for next summer’s European Championship. With the Three Lions gearing up for glory in Germany, after their impressive performances at recent tournaments, it would indeed be a hard pill to swallow for Henderson to risk missing out.

Al Ettifaq: Gerrard’s Plan B

Gerrard’s strategy to build a potent squad at Ettifaq will, at least for now, exclude Henderson. But, there might still be a touch of Liverpool in the mix, as the former Reds boss explores other Anfield connections to bolster his team. The recent speculations have hinted at possible moves for former Reds striker Divock Origi, and current midfielder, Thiago Alcantara, to the Saudi club.

Last season saw the midfield maestro featuring 43 times for Liverpool, with 29 starts across all tournaments. However, with the fresh arrivals of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, Henderson could find his position challenged. Regardless, the summer saga of the Merseyside captain and a Saudi Arabian club appears to be more fiction than fact.
