It should be a no-brainer to move Liverpool talent on this summer

Liverpool have had their fair share of players that have come and gone over the years, without making too much of a notable impact on Merseyside. It’s already been an interesting summer for Jurgen Klopp’s side, with some high-quality players arriving at the club ahead of the 2023/24 league campaign, which is set to get underway on Sunday 13th August 2023, as they travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea.

However, with new arrivals signing along the dotted line, further departures are to be expected. One potential departure that we could see in the coming weeks ahead of the new Premier League season is that of Caoimhin Kelleher, who is reportedly attracting interest from fellow Premier League side, Wolves.

Wolves are potentially looking to dip into the transfer market for a new goalkeeper, with current first-choice shot-stopper Jose Sa being linked with a move to Nottingham Forest, as they target a permanent replacement for Dean Henderson, who has returned to Manchester United from his loan spell at the City Ground.

Kelleher has been with Liverpool since 2015, and has gone on to make 21 first-team appearances for the Reds, although the large majority of those have come in cup competitions. The Irish international has been second-choice to Alisson Becker, which isn’t surprising given the Brazilian’s quality between the posts since signing for Liverpool back in 2018 from Italian side Roma.

At the age of 24, Kelleher might feel as though this summer could be the ideal time for him to leave Anfield on a permanent basis, as regular game time is likely to be important to him nowadays, as he won’t want to sit on the substitutes bench during the peak years of his senior career. The shot-stopper also has to think about regular minutes due to him being involved in the Republic of Ireland senior team as well, as if he continues to sit on the substitutes bench, then it seems difficult to believe that he won’t be dislodged from his starting spot in that team.

A move to Wolves could be the ideal move for all parties involved, as Liverpool would be able to reinvest the funds from Kelleher’s potential move, and the player would be getting the game time he needs to develop in senior football. However, a move would only make sense if Jose Sa was to leave Wolves this summer, as there wouldn’t be much purpose in Kelleher moving to another club to occupy a spot on the substitutes bench.

Liverpool finished a disappointing fifth in the Premier League last season, and will be keen for a much-improved league campaign this term under the management of Jurgen Klopp, who is entering his ninth season in charge of the club.

It’s been revealed by mybettingsites.co.uk that Liverpool are priced at 7/1 on Sky Bet to win the 2023/24 Premier League title, which is likely to be hugely competitive. Below, you’ll find the betting odds on Sky Bet for the rest of the title-challenging teams in the Premier League.

  • Manchester City @ 4/6
  • Arsenal @ 5/1
  • Liverpool @ 7/1
  • Manchester United @ 10/1
  • Chelsea @ 16/1
  • Newcastle United @ 18/1
  • Tottenham Hotspur @ 50/1

Odds displayed are correct as of 3:57 pm, Tuesday 18th July 2023. Odds are subject to change.

It’ll be an interesting few weeks ahead to see if Kelleher is to remain a Liverpool player or not, but it’s a transfer window that could define him as a player in the senior game.
