Liverpool’s Transfer Strategy Shift with Salah in Focus
Liverpool’s approach to the transfer market has taken a definitive turn as they prioritise securing the future of their star winger, Mohamed Salah. The Reds, currently leading the Premier League table, are deeply engaged in what appears to be a serious challenge for the title. This resurgence is partly thanks to their revamped midfield, boasting talents like Wataru Endo and Dominik Szoboszlai, both acquired last summer.
With the winter transfer window open, there’s buzz about potential reinforcements, given Liverpool’s £40m budget, as reported by ESPN. This figure isn’t unfamiliar territory for the club, recalling their January signings of Cody Gakpo (2023) and Luis Diaz (2022).

Salah’s Future at Anfield: Key Focus
However, the current talk of the town is Liverpool’s efforts to extend the contract of Mohamed Salah. The 31-year-old Egyptian winger is a crucial cog in Liverpool’s machine, sharing the top spot in the Premier League’s scoring charts with Erling Haaland, each netting 14 goals. Despite his age, Salah’s performance hasn’t dipped, tallying an impressive eight assists this season.
Salah had previously attracted a massive £150m bid from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad, which Liverpool declined. The club remains firm in its stance, not entertaining any offers for Salah this month.
Contract Extension on the Horizon?
Speculation about Salah’s future has been rife, especially considering he’ll be nearing 32 and entering the final year of his contract in 2025. The prospect of a hefty fee for a player with less than a year left on his contract might tempt the owners, FSG.
However, David Ornstein of The Athletic hinted in a November Q&A that Salah’s departure isn’t a foregone conclusion, suggesting a contract extension is possible. Ornstein pointed out that Salah might prefer staying and competing at Europe’s highest level.
Echoing this sentiment, a report from Football Transfers, in collaboration with Anfield Watch, indicates a shift in Liverpool’s transfer strategy. The club was actively seeking a replacement for Salah but has now refocused on negotiating a new deal with him, following indications of his willingness to stay.

Anticipation Builds Among Fans
This potential contract renewal is inching closer, suggesting Salah could remain at Liverpool for a few more years. Such a development would be warmly welcomed by Liverpool supporters. Retaining a player of Salah’s stature is crucial for a team looking to build on its success and add more titles to its collection.
