Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez: Liverpool’s Record-Breaking Duo

Liverpool currently find themselves in the middle of a thrilling Premier League title race, as they eye a historic treble in Jurgen Klopp’s farewell campaign. Their performances as a team have been quite incredible this season and many would find it hard to point out any individual players that have carried the system.

That being said, the likes of Alisson Becker, Virgil Van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alexis Mac Allister, Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez have all been sensational for the Reds. In fact, the latter of those two are breaking all sorts of records this season, therefore establishing their names in the history books at Anfield.

Liverpool’s Egyptian King

We all know the world-class capabilities of Mo Salah, but this season his contributions have really went under the radar. The forward is averaging a direct goal involvement every 67.7 minutes, with 21 goals and 13 assists in 31 appearances across all competitions this season.

When looking at Liverpool’s most prolific individual seasons in their history, Salah’s 23/24 campaign ranks second – only behind Luis Suarez’s incredible 13/14 campaign. The Uruguayan averaged a goal involvement every 65 minutes that season, with 31 goals and 19 assists in 37 games.

Salah’s current season even ranks higher than his sensational 17/18 season, which saw him score an incredible 44 goals across all competitions in his debut season. The Egyptian averaged a goal involvement every 69.8 minutes.

In terms of the ten most prolific individual seasons at Liverpool, as it stands Salah will occupy five of the top ten spots by the end of the season. It’s hard to put into words just how incredible Liverpool’s current talisman is, but these numbers prove his worth.

Darwin Nunez – Captain of More Than Chaos

As well as Salah’s simple brilliance this season, the stats provided by Simon Brundish also point out the magnificence of Darwin Nunez. After a turbulent debut season on Merseyside, Nunez has made huge strides in terms of his overall game and also his goal output.

Nunez has so far managed 17 goals and 14 assists in 42 games across all competitions this season, averaging a goal involvement every 79.6 minutes. Despite many labelling the Uruguayan as the ‘captain of chaos’, it’s also evident that he is starting to offer much more than that.

Particularly his output of assists, which is something that I’m sure no Liverpool supporters saw coming. As an out-an-out number nine, 14 assists is sensational, but also managing to be on track for a 20/25 goal season yourself is something you don’t see very often at all.

Who Next?

I was quite surprised that Diogo Jota’s name wasn’t on this list at all, especially when discussing goal involvements per minutes. Perhaps it’s his level of assists that let him down, because I’m sure he would find a way in on just goals per minute.

That being said, with Mo Salah’s future remaining uncertain, there is definitely a chance that the Portuguese forward makes it onto this list in the future. I wish I could say the same for Luis Diaz, but I really struggle to see him ever getting his final product to the same level as these elite forwards, which is a real shame.

Who knows, perhaps someone like a Jayden Danns or a Lewis Koumas could make it onto this list in the future. They’ve certainly made an ideal start to their Liverpool careers.
