Kelleher Edges Towards Liverpool Exit Amid Mamardashvili Arrival

Caoimhin Kelleher has suggested he could be set for a departure from Liverpool this summer, as the club prepares to welcome Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili in a £30 million deal from Valencia.

Kelleher has served as understudy to Alisson Becker since breaking into the senior squad, but the 26-year-old is increasingly eager for regular football. Speaking after Liverpool’s 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace, where he was an unused substitute, the Republic of Ireland international gave a clear indication of his ambitions.

“I think I’ve said it before that I feel like I’m a No. 1, I think I’m good enough to play week-in week-out, and that’s what I’m looking to do,” he said.

Playing Time A Priority For Kelleher

Kelleher continued, “This season I was lucky enough to play a lot of games but definitely something I’m looking at.”

In Alisson’s absence through injury, Kelleher made 20 appearances across all competitions this season for Arne Slot’s side. He registered nine clean sheets, including four in 10 Premier League appearances and three in four Champions League outings.

Despite his performances, the impending arrival of Mamardashvili is expected to further limit opportunities for Kelleher next season. The Georgian international was signed last summer but remained on loan at Valencia until the end of the 2024–25 campaign.

Future Uncertain As Market Interest Grows

With Alisson under contract for two more years and Mamardashvili entering the fold, Kelleher may be available either on loan or on a permanent deal this summer. He is likely to attract significant interest, particularly from clubs seeking first-choice goalkeepers.

Aston Villa and Manchester United have both been linked with goalkeeping reshuffles, and Kelleher represents a reliable option with top-flight and European experience. Having joined Liverpool’s youth ranks and signed professionally in 2018, he is well-regarded for his composure and shot-stopping abilities.

Celebrations Continue Despite Cloud Over Future

Kelleher remained upbeat following Liverpool’s title win, embracing the celebrations with supporters at Anfield despite his uncertain status.

“It’s obviously very special,” he said. “You know from being in the stadium how special the fans are. It’s special memories for us all and we’ll just soak up the atmosphere now and enjoy today.”

Looking ahead to the trophy parade, Kelleher predicted a lively occasion: “I think it’s going to be crazy,” he said. “I remember the last one, when we won the Champions League, was crazy.

“But it’s the first time in the Premier League with fans, I think it could be mental!”
