Jota’s Wife Shares Heartfelt Tribute as Liverpool Mourns

Emotional message from Rute Cardoso

Rute Cardoso, the wife of Diogo Jota, has paid tribute to her late husband in an emotional social media post, marking what would have been their first month of marriage.

Sharing photos from their wedding on 22 June, Rute wrote: “One month of our ‘until death do us part’,” before adding, simply, that she was “forever” his. The images, posted on Instagram, showed moments from what was meant to be the beginning of a new chapter in their lives together.

Tragic loss shakes Liverpool

Jota tragically died on 3 July in a car accident in Cernadilla, Spain. The 28-year-old forward was travelling with his younger brother, Andre Silva, when the vehicle they were in suffered a tyre blow-out, crashed and caught fire.

His sudden passing shocked the football world and deeply affected everyone connected to Liverpool, where Jota had become a fan favourite since his arrival from Wolves in 2020.

Legacy and honours

Jota scored 65 goals in 182 appearances for Liverpool, playing a key role in securing the FA Cup and League Cup double in 2022, a second League Cup in 2024, and the Premier League title last season.

In recognition of his contribution, the club confirmed last week that his number 20 shirt has been retired. A mural has also appeared near Anfield, surrounded by tributes and messages left by supporters.
