Liverpool Reject Besiktas Loan Approach for Chiesa

Turkish side explore late transfer option

The Turkish Super Lig’s extended transfer window has offered clubs a rare chance to prise away unsettled Premier League players. Besiktas, in particular, have been combing through options, initially sounding out Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard. Yet with that avenue firmly closed, their attention shifted to Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa.

Fabrizio Romano revealed on his YouTube channel:
“Besiktas also called for Federico Chiesa. Besiktas, in the last 24-48 hours, tried to call for Federico Chiesa, to understand his situation at Liverpool. What I can tell you is that Liverpool are not letting Federico go on loan. At the moment, negotiations are not advanced. It’s not something really concrete or advanced.”

The Istanbul club are “prepared to invest” in the winger market, Romano added, signalling they remain active in their search for attacking reinforcements.

Chiesa’s uncertain Liverpool role

Arne Slot’s decision to omit Chiesa from both the Champions League squad and Italy’s current international selection has only heightened doubts about his immediate future at Anfield. With a contract running until 2028, his long-term position is secure on paper, but the reality is a career in limbo.

Future considerations for club and player

January could yet prove decisive. If Chiesa wants to cement a role for Italy at the next World Cup, regular minutes are a necessity. Besiktas’ interest, while unlikely to succeed at this stage without a permanent bid, illustrates how quickly the market senses opportunity when a high-profile player drifts to the margins.

What a move to Turkey might mean

The Turkish Super Lig has long attracted Italian talent, from Mario Balotelli to Nicolo Zaniolo. For Chiesa, the allure of regular football and the responsibility of supplying Tammy Abraham at Besiktas may tempt, but only if Liverpool decide to cash in.

For now, Liverpool remain resistant. Chiesa must fight for relevance at Anfield, a club determined to manage their squad carefully as Slot shapes his project. Yet the question lingers: how long can such a talent accept life on the periphery?
