Emile Heskey Heaps Praise on £69m Liverpool Summer Arrival

After a busy summer window, which concluded with eight new players coming through the door at Anfield, many questioned whether it would take some time for this new-look Liverpool side to get up and running.

However, whilst performances could still improve, Liverpool find themselves as the only club to maintain a perfect league record after the opening three games.

The wins over AFC Bournemouth, Newcastle United and Arsenal leave Arne Slot’s side three points ahead of the Gunners and six points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Alexander Isak’s record-breaking deadline day arrival will only further bolster an already incredible squad on Merseyside.

Former Liverpool forward Emile Heskey spoke exclusively to Anfield Index, courtesy of William Hill, and shared his excitement over the Reds’ start to the season and one summer signing in particular…

Hugo Ekitike: Liverpool’s Next Star?

After arriving for £69m from Eintracht Frankfurt this summer, Hugo Ekitike became the first Liverpool player since Daniel Sturridge in 2013 to score in his first three games for the club.

The Frenchman opened his account in the FA Community Shield against Crystal Palace, before getting on the scoresheet in the opening two Premier League games against AFC Bournemouth and Newcastle United.

Heskey was keen to praise the 23-year-old, saying: “I’ve been really impressed with him so far. He looked sharp from the opening game and confidence wise, there is nothing better than getting in the scoresheet and playing a big role in a big home win.”

“With signing so early in the transfer window, he would have got a good feel for the club, had a good pre-season and you can feel it by the way he has been playing on the pitch.”

“He can be very happy with his opening performances and he could go on to be a star for the club.”

The arrival of Isak will add fierce competition in the centre-forward spot, but it’s the sort of battle that will only bring out the best in both players.

Liverpool are ‘Absolutely’ Title Favourites

With Slot’s side sitting lonely at the top, Heskey already believes that Liverpool are favourites to retain the Premier League title.

“Liverpool are three wins from three and now in the international break, there is huge positivity that they can go on and have a very good season.”

“Absolutely, you would have to say they’re favourites after the signing of Isak. Three wins from three. A win over your nearest rival from last season, this is the perfect start for Liverpool and Isak to come into the team after the international break. All things look very promising for the club to go on and defend their title this season. It will be close, as I said, all top teams who are challengers have strengthen, so injuries may not affect them as much as last season as replacements will be equally as good.”
