Exclusive: Sebastian Hoeneß on Liverpool’s Radar with Arne Slot’s Future Uncertain
Despite winning the Premier League title in his debut season, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot is under immense pressure.
Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur left the Reds sitting 5th in the Premier League table with just eight games to go.
The title defence has been a disaster and supporters are growing inpatient.
And whilst reports suggest that Arne Slot still has the full backing of the club, Anfield Index sources can confirm that Liverpool have started drawing up a shortlist of potential candidates for the head coach role.
Liverpool Considering Sebastian Hoeneß
According to Anfield Index sources, VFB Stuttgart head coach Sebastian Hoeneß is one of the names under consideration should the club part ways with Arne Slot this summer.
The German head coach has held managerial roles at Bayern Munich II, Hoffenheim and Stuttgart.
His recent success at Stuttgart has propelled him onto the radar of top clubs. After saving Stuttgart from relegation in the 2022-23 season, Hoeneß has since guided the club back to the UEFA Champions League after a second place finish in 2023-24.

Last season saw his side finish 9th in the Bundesliga, but managed to win the DFB-Pokal, which was the club’s first trophy since 2007.
The 43-year-old also has an impressive track record in developing talent. Players like Angelo Stiller, Serhou Guirassy have excelled under his guidance.
A key factor behind Liverpool’s interest is Hoeneß’s ability to work under a structure alongside a sporting director.
However, with Stuttgart currently sitting 4th in the Bundesliga, they’re on track to secure Champions League football for next season. In contrast, Liverpool’s spot in the elite European competition is far from secure.
