Exclusive: Former Liverpool Star Names His Ideal Mohamed Salah Replacement

After a record-breaking spend last year, Liverpool are set for another busy window this summer. The performances this season have highlighted the need for new additions, with Arne Slot’s side currently sitting fourth in the Premier League table.

But the biggest issue heading into the transfer window is replacing Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian King has already confirmed his plans to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, despite having one year remaining on his deal.

A number of names have been mentioned as potential replacements. Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise, PSG’s Bradley Barcole and RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande have been the three names discusses most.

Former Liverpool midfielder Jermaine Pennant spoke exclusively to Anfield Index, courtesy of BetBrain, and claimed the latter of those names would be the best choice…

Diomande to Replace Salah?

The 19-year-old forward is one of the hottest prospects in Europe at the moment, registering 22 goal involvements so far this season. He is expected to leave the Bundesliga side this summer and is reportedly valued at around £85m.

“I do really like Yan Diomande at RB Leipzig,” began Pennant.

“People will point to the fact that he is only performing in the Bundesliga, but he is still impressing. 22/GA this season,” said Pennant.

“He’s so quick, powerful and he has good end product. That’s exactly what you need from your wide forwards,” said Penannt.

Is it Possible to Replace Salah?

Some will believe that it’s mission impossible replacing Mohamed Salah. He has been an absolute icon since his arrival on Merseyside back in 2017.

“It’s difficult to replace legends like him,” continued Pennant, “Arsenal lost Thierry Henry. Spurs lost Harry Kane. It’s difficult to ever replace them.”

“The recruitment team has to be on their A-game,” said Pennant, “There’s always the players out there. It’s about having the right people with the right eye to spot them.”

Sporting director Richard Hughes is set to oversee the summer rebuild once again alongside head coach Arne Slot. 

Whether it’s Diomande, Barcola or a name that hasn’t even been mentioned yet, they’re going to have a huge task on their hands filling Salah’s boots…
