James Pearce Drops Arne Slot Update That Will Have Liverpool Fans Frustrated

It’s fair to say that Liverpool’s title defence has been disastrous, with the Reds currently sitting 5th in the Premier League table with one game to go.

One slight positive is that Champions League qualification is pretty much secured for next season, but that hasn’t eased the pressure mounting on head coach Arne Slot.

The Dutchman has failed to provide any evidence that he can turn around the club’s fortunes after a woeful campaign.

Liverpool fans have been left restless, with a large portion of the supporters wanting a change in the dugout.

And after some brief rumours earlier today, some of those fans might have thought their wish had been granted.

Sebastien Denis of Foot Mercato had reported that Liverpool were considering replacing Arne Slot with AFC Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola. The Spaniard has guided the Cherries to European football for the first time in their history, and currently sit 6th in the Premier League.

However, an evening update from James Pearce of The Athletic has slammed the brakes on such thinking.

Liverpool’s Stance on Arne Slot

According to Pearce, Liverpool have not changed their minds on Slot’s future.

“Liverpool’s position on Arne Slot remains unchanged – despite a day of social media rumours,” Pearce posted on X.

For now, that is the case. But Fabrizio Romano revealed earlier that Liverpool still intend on carrying out an end of season review, which could bring Slot’s future into question.

After that review is when we can expect answers over the Liverpool head coach position. But until then, Slot staying remains the most likely outcome…

Before that, Liverpool fans will have to brace themselves for an emotional final day of the season. Slot’s side take on Brentford at Anfield, where they will wave goodbye to two club legends in Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson.

It is also expected to be Alisson Becker’s final game for the club, whilst the likes of Joe Gomez, Curtis Jones and Alexis Mac Allister are all facing uncertain futures.

It’s certainly going to be an emotional one.
