Liverpool star set to miss PSV clash after latest training update
After a run of six defeats in seven Premier League games, Liverpool’s attention turns back to the UEFA Champions League.
Last time out in Europe, Arne Slot’s side put in an incredible performance to beat Real Madrid 1-0 at Anfield. Alexis Mac Allister’s header proved to be the difference on the night.
But this game is a huge one for Slot. The 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday has tipped some fans to call for him to be sacked.
Reports from the likes of Fabrizio Romano claim that the club are fully backing Slot, despite Liverpool currently sitting 12th in the Premier League table.
Their form in Europe has been much better, with three wins from four games so far and a victory against PSV would go a long way in their pursuit of finishing in the top eight.
However, there is one blow already to Slot’s squad.
Key star absent from training
Florian Wirtz, who was signed for £116m in the summer, missed the Nottingham Forest clash with a minor issue. Despite hopes that he would return in time for this one, the German midfielder was absent from Liverpool’s training session today.
Fans will have their fingers crossed that he can return in time for Sunday’s clash at West Ham United.

Right-backs Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley also missed training and are expected to be sidelined for another few weeks. Joe Gomez could feature at full-back in their place.
Giovanni Leoni is also ruled out for the season with an ACL injury that he unfortunately picked up on his Liverpool debut against Southampton in the Carabao Cup.
