Liverpool Transfer News: Reds Leading the Race for Ibrahim Mbaye
Liverpool’s summer transfer window is eventually starting to pick up the pace. It started well with the arrivals of Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz, but since then it has been radio silence for six weeks.
Now, Liverpool are in talks over a double raid on PSG to sign both Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye. Fabrizio Romano has provided a really positive update on the latter of those names…
Liverpool Favourites for Mbaye
Speaking on Give Me Sport’s ‘Market Madness’ podcast, Romano claimed Liverpool are in the driving seat to sign the 18 year old.
He said: “There is genuine interest in Ibrahim Mbaye and there is a conversation happening with the player’s new agent, Jorge Mendes.”
“Bayer Leverkusen were pushing but now Liverpool lead the race for Mbaye. Let’s see if they can reach a financial agreement with PSG.”
The move for Mbaye comes as Liverpool look to rebuild their attack after the departure of Mohamed Salah.
Last season saw them lock off the striker position for years to come when they signed both Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike for a total of £194m.
Similar money could be now being spent on reinforcing their winger department. Victor Munoz has already arrived for £34.5m from Osasuna, and any move for Mbaye would likely cost a similar fee.
Barcola remains the priority marquee target for the window, and is expected to cost more than £100m.
These two arrivals could open the door to an exit for Cody Gakpo, who is wanted by Tottenham Hotspur. There’s a lot of wheels in motion in Liverpool’s attacking department, and it’s certainly one to keep a keen eye on for the last few weeks of the window.
