Klopp's team news from his pre-Porto press conference
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp gave a generally positive injury update ahead of The Reds’ Champions League clash with FC Porto tonight.
Klopp will be without left-back Andy Robertson who misses the game through suspension.
Otherwise, Liverpool’s injury-list is getting better looking every day *touch wood.
Speaking at his pre-game press conference, Klopp said:
“We had little problems after the game, back problems here, Gini Wijnaldum a little back problem, Joel [Matip], I think even Virgil [van Dijk] from a fall on the ground. But they all should be OK, hopefully.”
Liverpool are expected to be without Adam Lallana for this game due to a slight muscle issue which also kept him out of the Southampton game last Friday. He should be back in contention for Chelsea at the weekend, however.
When asked about Joe Gomez, Klopp explained the need for the club to be very patient with his comeback.
“He could be maybe [available] but for him, it’s better to have more sessions. Joe needs that, he is not long enough in training,” the boss said of Gomez, who travelled with the squad to Southampton on Friday.
“If we don’t struggle players-wise, that we don’t have enough, then we should not think about Joe for the next one or two weeks because now he needs really proper training.”
Liverpool beat FC Porto 5-0 on aggregate at the last-16 stage last season. It’s expected to be a far tougher task this time around, though.
