Liverpool’s Sadio Mané could be picked to start against Norwich City at Anfield tonight despite only returning from his summer break earlier this week.
The Reds’ number 10 had a hectic summer, going all the way to the AFCON final where Senegal eventually lost to Algeria.
Due to his extended international duty, Mané only returned to Melwood on Monday so his first-team training has been extremely limited.
However, speaking on Thursday in his pre-match press conference, Jurgen Klopp didn’t seem to have any major concerns with Mané’s condition because of the short amount of time the player was off.
“Yes. He had only two weeks off, so he didn’t lose a lot and that’s the good news.
“He looks fit. Yes, he is an option.
“Yesterday was the first session with the team because Monday he came in about four o’clock or so when we’d already left and Tuesday the team was off and he had his individual session.
“Yes, he [was] now with the team for the first time and looks absolutely OK, in good spirits and looking forward to it.
“So, yes, he’s an option but we will see.”
Mané has scored in all three opening games he has played in his three full seasons for Liverpool. He is looking to equal Teddy Sheringham’s 24-year-old record by making it four consecutive opening games in a row so Klopp may well be tempted to give him a start and play him for 60 or 70 minutes.
