Jurgen Klopp had to make some changes to break Sheffield United down

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp discussed the tactical tweaks he and his backroom team implemented during the second half of Liverpool’s win at Bramall Lane.

A fortunate Gini Wijnaldum strike won the three points for The Reds after Sheffield United goalkeeper Dean Henderson let the ball slip through his hands and over the line.

Up until then, Chris Wilder’s Blades had kept Liverpool at bay and had one or two moments of their own at the other end.

Looking back on the win, talking to Liverpoolfc.com, Klopp said:

“We changed before the goal… Div was involved in the goal… we needed to have players in between the lines.

“The midfielders didn’t get that there really, so Gini and Hendo didn’t come in the No.10 position next to Bobby.

“So, it was too often that we just passed to the full-back and the positioning in the box wasn’t right for a cross.

“We wanted to have Bobby in between the lines and still offensive wings, so that’s what we did with Div, Mo in the centre.

“That’s how we scored the goal, not exactly with all involved, but in a situation like that, so all good.”

Klopp was clearly happy with another three points which his team had fought for in a very difficult encounter against the newly-promoted side.

“Winning a game is always satisfying, I don’t want to compare them – they’re all good.

“We won a couple of games in a row and coming here it probably looked for a lot of people like a banana skin after 20, 25 minutes. But we stayed in the game, stayed concentrated and won it. All good.”

Liverpool return to Champions League action on Wednesday night when they face RB Salzburg of Austria at Anfield. Then on Saturday, it’s a big game against Brendan Rodgers’ high-flying Leicester City side, again at Anfield.
