Liverpool have set their sights on signing Olympiakos left-back Konstantinos Tsimikas after failing to reach an agreed price with Norwich for Jamal Lewis.
The 24-year-old Greece international is reported to be close to signing for The Reds after Michael Edwards met with Olympiakos representatives earlier this week when they were in England for their Europa League tie with Wolves.
According to Melissa Reddy’s piece in The Independent, Tsimikas is to fly into Merseyside for his medical early this week.
Reddy also states that Norwich wanted at least double the £10 million Liverpool offered for Jamal Lewis. An agreement has not been reached so far between the clubs. If Tsimikas joins Liverpool, it’s unclear if they will continue their pursuit of Lewis.
The article claims that Tsimikas can be secured for €13 million (£11.75m) from Olympiacos, which represents better value as an option to deputise for Andy Robertson.
Liverpool’s scouting department had a shortlist of four left-backs with Lewis and Tsimikas making up two of the names on the list.
Jürgen Klopp and co are also rumoured to be chasing the signature of Real Betis’ versatile defender Aïssa Mandi. Mandi can play as a centre-back or right-back and has played 55 international caps for Algeria.
